My soul be a ransom for the Qurayshi, the noblest master.
My soul I sacrifice for the Qurayshi, the noblest master
Through him, hopes have reached their utmost goal.
Through whom hopes attained the goal of their purpose

How often I have spent the night singing of him like a songbird!
How much I yearn to sing his praises with the song of a warbler
My longing for the Prophet Muhammad has lasted so long.
Prolonged is my ardour for the Prophet Muhammad

When, then, shall I reach that station?
When can I reach that abode and arrive
O camel-driver, whom the lightning over al-Abraq has made thirsty,
O guide, give water to my overflowing tears

Drink from the watering places of my streaming tears.
For God’s sake, my youth and passion
How wondrous are my ardent longing and passionate love!
My patience is spent and my longing increased

For my patience has perished, and my yearning has grown
Towards the beloved, yet no way to reach
Toward the beloved, though there is no path to him.
It was Taha who was generous to people and beasts and birds
طَهَTaha الَّذيwho جادَتgave generously يَداهُhis two hands بِخَيرِهاwith their bounty

Taha, whose hands freely bestowed their bounty
He whose way was followed by travellers with their gear
On humankind, as well as the desert's wild beasts and birds.
My soul I sacrifice for him, I have no other

He is the one the night travelers sought on their journey.
While the soul’s love for the Messenger is little
My soul be his ransom—I possess nothing else.
Who will pause by the fervent lover’s door
وَالروحand the soul فيin حُبِّlove for الرَسولthe Messenger قَليلُa small thing

And a soul is little to give for love of the Messenger.
And gain the blessing of touching the earth of his threshold
Who will grant the sorrowful lover a moment standing at his door,
O driver of yearnings to his sanctum

And the chance to kiss the dust from his thresholds?
Shall I rub my cheeks in his dust and rejoice and say
O driver of the camel caravans toward his precincts,
This one whom Scripture has praised in its text
أتُرىdo you think أُمرّغI shall rub وَجنَتيmy cheek بِتُرابِهِin his dust

Do you think I shall rub my cheek in his dust,
Whose nature envelops perfection beyond any flaw
And be enraptured by my joy in him, and say:
This one who consoles believers with his care

This is he whom the Book praised in its very text
This one who mounted Al-Buraq with his being
For the character he possessed, free of any flaw.
Above the heavens, this one has lodgings

This is the comforter of the believers through his devoted care.
Glory to Him who elevated his ascent and ennobled him
This is he who rode al-Buraq in his own person.
Until he reached the seventh heaven in its elevation

This Prophet, the chosen one, is the intercessor

This is the Prophet whose help is sought, the Chosen One.
A day more splendid than the virtues of his character
This is he toward whom all hearts incline.
Let me rave fervently in my love for him
ماneither الشَمسُthe sun ماnor البَدرُthe full moon المُنيرُluminous بِشَرقِهِat its rising

Neither the sun nor the full moon, luminous at its rising,
This is God’s Messenger, the elite of His creation
Is ever more radiant than the noble virtues of his character.
This Messenger is the guide to the Gardens

Let me be enraptured with yearning in my love for him.
With knowledge of the unseen distinguished and disclosed
This is God's Messenger, the choicest of His creation.
He sees the back as the front before his gaze
هَذاthis الرَسولMessenger إِلىto الجِنانthe gardens of Paradise دَليلُa guide

This Messenger is a guide to the gardens of Paradise.
Listen to the garlands of his traits I have portrayed
A master singled out for knowledge of the unseen and its unveiling,
This pebble glorified in his palm
وَغَداand came to يَرىsee كَأَمامِهِas before him مِنfrom خَلفِهِbehind him

And he came to see behind him as he saw before him.
This fresh water flows from his blessed hands
Fashion whatever necklaces of praise for him come to mind.
Still my heart wounded, delighted is its rapture

This is he in whose palm the pebbles glorified God.
Yearning for the one God has exalted with His praise
This is he from whose two palms pure water flows.
For the cosmos was a body with Ahmad as its soul

I remain anguished and wounded at heart,
To you is abundant bounty, visitors of his shrine
With yearning for him whose praise God exalted.
That station where all illness disappears
فَالكَونfor the universe جِسمٌa body كانwas أَحمَدُAhmad روحهُits soul

لَكُمto you الهَناjoy ياO زائِرينvisitors to ضَريحَهُhis tomb
For the universe is a body whose soul was Ahmad.
He is the best of God’s creations, opener of His door
Joy to you, O visitors to his tomb!
His chosen companion from among his loved ones

هُوhe خَيرُthe best of خَلقthe creation of اللَهGod فاتحthe opener of بابِهِHis gate
At that station, sickness vanishes.
So if times afflict you with their plight
He is the best of God's creation, the opener of His gate,
Seek refuge through him, make supplication to his noble side
وَصفيُّهُand His elect المُختارthe chosen one مِنfrom among أَحبابِهِHis beloved ones

And His elect, chosen from among His beloved.
For he is the intercessor for those who come to him
So if time strikes you with its affliction,
O heart, do not neglect remembering the Intercessor

Take refuge in him and seek intercession through his presence.
No good in one who turns away from Abu Al-Zahra
For he is the intercessor for whoever comes to him seeking protection.
I am a sinner while he is merciful to the ignorant

O heart, do not neglect remembrance of the accepted intercessor.
One who is a sinner like me should plead
There is no good in one heedless of the father of al-Zahra.
And raise his palms to him and say
أَناI مُذنبa sinner وَهوَand he الرَؤوفthe compassionate one بِمَنtoward whoever جَهلacted ignorantly

I am a sinner, and he is compassionate toward those who act in ignorance.
O best of creations, I have come to you seeking
Whoever is a sinner like me, let him pray earnestly,
Composing hymns of supplication to you

And from entreaty I have fashioned necklaces in your praise.
May you lighten the way for the hopeful one from stumbling
So grant your favor, and be my helper in calamities.

O you whose aid is the cure for my ailment
Because of it, my heart has spent the night in regret.

Forgiveness for the sin which led me to disgrace
And have come to the noble sanctuary and a chamber
I have no excuse, I admit to my misstep
