وَجديmy longing بِأَهيفِfor one slender قدٍّof figure ليI have بِهِfor him وَلعٌinfatuation

My passion is for a slender-waisted youth of graceful stature; I am enamored of him.
My longing is for one of slender figure; I am infatuated with him.
I yearn for him, while he listens to sorrows.
I yearn for him, while he listens to the slanderers.
كَمhow often قُلتُI said وَالدَمعُand the tears مِنّيfrom me سائِلٌflowing هَمِعٌpouring copiously
ياO رَبِّmy Lord إِنif لَمnot يَكُنthere be فيin وَصلِهِunion with him طَمَعٌhope
How often I have said, while tears streamed from me in torrents:
How often I have said, as tears streamed from me in torrents:
O Lord, if there is no hope of union with him,
O my Lord, if there is no hope of union with him,
وَلَمand not يَكُنthere be فَرَجrelief مِنfrom طولthe length جَفوَتِهِof his estrangement
عَجّلhasten إلهيَmy God فيin تَبديلِchanging صورَتِهِhis appearance
and no relief from his long estrangement,
And no relief from his prolonged estrangement,
hasten, my God, to transform his appearance,
Hasten, my God, to change his appearance,
وَأَنقذand rescue القَلبَthe heart مِنfrom بَلوىthe affliction مَحبَّتِهِof loving him
فَإِنfor if يَزدadds سقمthe languor جفنيهِof his two eyelids بِبَهجَتِهِto his beauty
and save the heart from the ordeal of loving him.
And rescue the heart from the affliction of loving him.
For if the languor of his eyelids grows with his beauty,
For if the languor of his eyelids adds to his beauty,
فَاِشفthen heal السقامthe sickness الَّذيthat فيin لَحظthe glance مُقلَتِهِof his eye
وَاِستُرand veil مَلاحةthe loveliness خَدَّيهِof his two cheeks بِلحيَتِهِwith his beard
then cure the malady within the glance of his eye,
Then heal the sickness in his eye's glance,
and veil the loveliness of his cheeks with his beard.
And veil his cheeks' loveliness with his beard.
