My lord, what you have bestowed upon me
My lord, it did not benefit me
Has increased my solace, without reminders of the favor.
It only brought me distress without favor
وَبِحَمدand with praise to اللَهGod حينَwhen دَناhe drew near
وَبِحَمد اللَه حينَ دَنا
خالِقيmy Creator أَبعدهsent him away عَنّيfrom me
خالِقي أَبعده عَنّي
And, praise be to God, when he drew near,
By God's grace when it approached
My Creator sent him away from me.
My Creator kept it away from me

Is that, then, a monkey or a gazelle fawn?
Was it a poor or an evil creature
My judgment was bewildered by his features.
My mind was confused by its traits

My lord, which of the two do you mean?
My lord, which of the two do you mean?

Then, when he drew near to me,
Then when it came near me

I said in alarm, “Who is this?”
I said, panicking, "What is this?"
He said, “An ifrit from among the jinn.”
It said, "I am a jinni demon."
