قابَلتهI met him يَوماًone day فقَبّلتهthen I kissed him
وَرضتand I tamed مِنهُfrom him المَركبthe mount الصعباthe unruly
I met him one day, then kissed him.
I met him one day and kissed him
And I tamed his unruly mount.
And was pleased with his harsh rebuke
وَقُلتand I said ياO مَولايmy lord لاdo not تَبئسgrieve
أَناI الَّذيthe one who طبَّhealed لِمَنfor whoever حَبّاloved
And I said, “My lord, do not grieve;
And said, my Lord, do not despair
I am the one who has healed those who love.”
It is I who became devoted to the one I loved
فَطابَso he was gladdened نَفساًin spirit بِالَّذيby what قلتهُI said it
وَرَقَّand he softened ليtoward me مِنout of لُطفِهِhis kindness قَلباin heart
So he was gladdened in spirit by what I said,
So his soul rejoiced at what I said
and his heart softened toward me out of his kindness.
And his kindness softened my heart
