Every living being but the Guardian is mortal.

So fear God, O people of understanding.

Seas of tears do not equal, in benefit,

A drop from the clouds of forgiveness.

And the wise man is he who finds death sweeter

Than a life spent in an abode of humiliation.

Patience in hardships is but a shield

That the arrows of misfortune have not torn.

And the patient man and the fretful man, when

The arrows of fate strike home, are alike.

Indeed, people's ignorance of their allotted lifespans is a blessing

Received from the Giver of bounty.

If a person knew his allotted share of life,

He would spend it in worry and sorrow.
