O you who shun me so often for fear of your watcher,

And shoot arrows at me from the bow of your eyebrow,

Torment my heart, and see how tender its side is.

I have a free man's heart: when its yearning lasts long,

It flies in longing to meet its tormentor.

Indeed, I seek protection for beauty, whose fairest share you possess,

From a reproacher who attained his desire with someone other than us.

O peerless one, my lovesick bewilderment has grown in loving you.

A lovesick lover ransoms you with his life; if he had

Anything dearer than his own life, he would ransom you with it.
