أفٍّ فَما كُلّ مِصباح لَهُ شَرَف

أفٍّ فَما كُلّ مِصباح لَهُ شَرَف

بِهِ اِستَحَقَّ لِأَجل النور تَعليقا

بِهِ اِستَحَقَّ لِأَجل النور تَعليقا

Bah! Not every lamp has the honor

That earns it the right to be hung for its light.

بَعض المَصابيح يَزهو في مَساجدنا

بَعض المَصابيح يَزهو في مَساجدنا

وَبَعضها باتَ في المِرحاض مَشنوقا

وَبَعضها باتَ في المِرحاض مَشنوقا

Some lamps shine proudly in our mosques,

And some have ended up hanged in the latrine.
