لا تَحكموا بِقصاص من شرب الطَا

لا تَحكموا بِقصاص من شرب الطَا

قَبل المضرِّ فَإِنَّ ذا عُدوانُ

قَبل المضرِّ فَإِنَّ ذا عُدوانُ

Do not sentence one who drank al-ṭā (possibly wine) to retribution

Do not judge the drinker of wine

before the wrongdoer, for this is injustice.

Before intoxication, for that is aggression

يا لَيتَ آثار الأَذى ظَهرت بِهِ

يا لَيتَ آثار الأَذى ظَهرت بِهِ

حَتّى يبين لَكُم مَنِ السكرانُ

حَتّى يبين لَكُم مَنِ السكرانُ

Oh, if only the traces of harm had appeared on him,

Oh, if only the signs of harm appeared on him

so that it might become clear to you who is drunk.
