يا بَدر حُسنٍ سَناءً قَد زَها وَسَنا
How long will your estrangement deny my eyelid slumber?
Your estrangement prevents my eyelids from closing,
O full moon of beauty, you have gleamed and shone with splendor!
O beautiful full moon that has risen radiantly.

Be gentle with one who has tasted no life serene and sweet.
Be kind to one who has not tasted an easy, carefree life,
For my body has weakened from bearing sorrow.
For my body is worn out from bearing sorrow.

أَضحى لَدَيك فُؤاد الصَبّ مُرتَهَنا
Had my plight not proved overwhelming in my love for you, never
Had my state in passion for you not overcome me,
Would the lover’s heart have become a pledge in your keeping.
The heart of this love-sick one would not have become a pawn to you.
