I kept silent; then I was told, “Speak,” and spoke fine words,

فضولexcess القَولspeech يذهبُtakes away كُلّall فَضلmerit
وَقَولand speech الفَضلmerit يَجتَلبbrings الفَضائلvirtues
Excessive speech takes away all merit,
And worthy speech brings virtues.

بِهِin it اِستَوَتbecame equal الأَسافلthe base وَالأَفاضلand the virtuous

In which the base and the virtuous have become equals.

With which of the two groups he will be mentioned in assemblies.
وَأَحرىand most fitting ماnominalizing particle يَكونis الصَمتsilence عِنديin my view
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle قيسَis compared قسُّهُمُtheir Quss بِباقلwith Baqil
And silence is most fitting, in my view,
When their Quss is compared with Baqil.
