The sun of congratulations rose, reciting joy,

and the two moons followed it with delight.

And the herald of good cried out, reciting:

“Say not ‘one glad tiding,’ but ‘two!’”

Do you not see the sun of high honors, around which

the two Farqad stars shone in glory's sky?

I mean none but Khurshid of exalted rank,

when his two most noble sons arrived.

When he met them, they reminded me of

“He set the two seas free as they meet.”

And, while he stood between them, there appeared to me

a barrier of awe that neither would overstep.

And our two eyes, from overwhelming happiness

and glad tidings of our hopes, gush forth.

Within them are two springs of tears that, when

    we stand to meet, flow.

How often, after reunion, separation recited to us:

“And for whoever fears my station, there are two gardens.”

The gathering's joy in the one who adorned it,

and meeting him—these are the loveliest gardens.

Do you not see the cheek of the sanctuary's gardens,

how it became a rose, like oil?

And in thanks to God, the garden's herbs and the

verdant trees both rose to bow down.

We have gathered the fruits of success from

their spreading trees, where the gardens' fruit hangs near.

And, with praise to God, we gained all that

we seek of security and hopes.

Every day He attends to a matter—so how

fortunate is diligence, and how wretched is indolence!

O my companion, rise with us; let us offer praise

to a peerless man with no equal in excellence,

to a high-minded man, through whom time and again

lofty ranks gained honor after humiliation.

A lion, whose place in our land

is like the soul's place in a coward's body.

He gained forbearance and power, and has never ceased

through them both to rise to the highest station.

So when he dictates, glory be to Him who

gave humankind some of the magic of eloquence!

And when he writes—nay, I swear by the

pen that issues from those fingers.

O minister, whom Asif never matched,

you are thus the Solomon of the age.

Where is Qays al-Ra'y beside your judgment? Nay,

where are jinn and humankind beside all you have attained?

For you have indeed acquired traits of nobility

which the tongue's eloquence was powerless to describe.

Your gracious visit was a Nayruz, to which

your two scions joined the feast of Mahrajan.

Oh, what a day, on which we attained our wishes

and happiness! For it is like the day of Nahrawan.

Let your eye be soothed by them both; indeed, they are

under God's protection, in the safest keeping.
