وَلا بَأس أَن لا تَختشي اليَوم مِن بَأسِ
Prolong our union, and mingle my cup with the dusky hue of your lips.
My hand is stretched out in yearning, and I mix my cup with tears
And there is no harm if you fear no danger today.
There is no harm today if you are not afraid of harm

For my eyes, at the sight of the watcher, are at a funeral,
My eyes are in mourning from the sight of the watcher
While my heart, picturing you, is at a wedding.
And my heart is distracted picturing your image at the wedding feast

If the captive is safe from the desert gazelle’s disdain,
If the gazelle is safe from the howl of wild dogs
Then may he gain no favor from meeting the gazelle of humankind.
It will not attain safety from us, the hunters of mankind

O reproacher, do you believe in love when hope is gone?
You blame me at the point of despair for having faith in love
Woe to you! Sacred law has rejected the faith of one in despair.
Woe to you! The law has declared the faith of the despairing invalid
