You are the crowning glory of ranks

And lofty honors, O son of the best of fathers.

    Yet glory has no

Desire for any but the noble.

    يا لَهُ بِالفَضل مِن نَسَبِ

    And it has kinship at your gate;

Oh, what a lineage of excellence!

A lineage that lifts you in honor

Above the crowns of the seven shining stars.

O sons of al-Yafi, what praise

Among people is not your due?

And the miracles that are yours

Heal the mind's fancies of affliction.

You are the people who have known

The secret of al-Hatimi al-Arabi's excellence.

And those whose praises have spread

In the tongues of Turks and Arabs.

Masters through whom the seeker gains eminence,

    Whether seeking refuge or affiliation.

So receive glory from your age, O

    Abid al-Fattah, or attain it.

The rank of teaching has, in you, indeed

Proved noble, O noblest of the noble.

    وَجَمال العلم بِالأَدَبِ

    And shone with learning joined to refinement;

And learning's beauty lies in refinement.

    It heralded glory in Rajab,

    And thereby brought a wonder.

And by my life, before that you did not

Know that the feast was in Rajab.

So rejoice forever, as long as they coo—

The singing gray doves, out of delight—

    Or sing, reciting a chronogram:

"You are the crowning glory of ranks."
