هَذاthis كِتابa book فيon الحِسابarithmetic لَقَدindeed حَوىit contained
هَذا كِتاب في الحِساب لَقَد حَوى
مِنof كُلِّevery مسألةproblem أَتَتcame بِصَوابِwith a correct answer
مِن كُلِّ مسألة أَتَت بِصَوابِ
This is a book on arithmetic; it has indeed included
This book on arithmetic has encompassed
Something of every problem that came with a correct answer.
All problems correctly solved
لَكنّbut مسألتيmy problem الَّتيwhich قَدindeed أَشكَلتproved perplexing
لَكنّ مسألتي الَّتي قَد أَشكَلت
مَعwith منthe one who حَواهpossessed it لَمdid not تَكُنbe بِحسابِin the reckoning
مَع من حَواه لَم تَكُن بِحسابِ
But my problem, which has proved perplexing,
Yet my perplexing problem
With the one who possessed it, was not in the reckoning.
Was not among what it solved
ياO رَبِّmy Lord هَذاthis سوءbadness حَظّيmy luck لَمdid not يَدَعleave
يا رَبِّ هَذا سوء حَظّي لَم يَدَع
ليfor me فيamong الوَرىhumankind حَظّاًa share مِنof الأَحبابِloved ones
لي في الوَرى حَظّاً مِن الأَحبابِ
O my Lord, this ill fortune of mine has not left
O Lord, such is my misfortune
Me any share of loved ones among humankind.
Leaving me no fortune among loved ones
