نَظَريmy reflection لِأَحكامon the rulings الوُلاةthe governors أَفادَنيhas brought me
نَظَري لِأَحكام الوُلاة أَفادَني
عجباًwonder فَهاso here أناI شاخصstaring أَتعَجَّبُI marvel
عجباً فَها أنا شاخص أَتعَجَّبُ
My contemplation of the rulers’ decrees has brought me
My reflection on the governors’ rulings has brought me
a marvel: at them I gaze, transfixed, in wonder.
wonder—so here I am, staring in amazement.
يَقضونthey pass judgment كَالقَدرlike fate المُتاحallotted عَلىupon الوَرىhumankind
يَقضون كَالقَدر المُتاح عَلى الوَرى
فَالأَمرso command يُعطىis given وَالإِرادةand the will تسلبُis taken away
فَالأَمر يُعطى وَالإِرادة تسلبُ
They decree like fate unleashed upon humankind;
They pass judgment on humankind like allotted fate;
thus the command is given, while the will is stripped away.
so command is given, and the will is taken away.
