A curse on the coffee of him who has come to lavish on us
Alas for the coffee of one who in the evening is generous to us
Black coffee made from charcoal dust.
With coffee made from charcoal ashes, black,

O miser, glory is not won through folly,
O miser! Glory is not won through foolishness
Nor does honor sit well with the abject.
And good manners do not become the lowly,

An odor that stirs my black bile and my yellow bile.
A smell that excites my blackness and yellowness,

I imagined no one stretching out a palm to drink it
None who stretched out a palm to drink it
Except as one stretching both his palms toward water.
Other than one stretching out his palms to water.
