تَرفَّق بي فَدَيتك يا عُيوني
By the sight of your radiant, inviolate face,
With your radiant, guarded face at dawn
Be gentle with me—may I be your ransom, O my eyes.
Have mercy on me, my dear eyes

So, O moon shining from the brow,
The shining moon is nothing to your forehead
Your image lies between the folds of my eyelids,
Your image between the eyelids

And remembrance of you stays with me in motion and stillness.
And your memory in movement and stillness
How long this turning away? You have prolonged your desertion of me.
How long will this estrangement extend?

Gently—for chaste love is my excuse.
Gently, for innocent love is my excuse
On a day when I see you, my plight grows lighter;
When will I see you and my affair seems simple?

And on a day I do not see you, my chest tightens.
And a day I do not see you, my chest feels tight
And the women who reproach me excuse me for my madness.
And the reproachers drive me mad in my passion

Why have you deliberately killed the youth?
And O son of Nu'man's anemones in cheek,
And O son of anemone cheeks and mole
