أذىharm السكرdrunkenness مَقصورٌconfined عَلىto شاربdrinker of الطلاwine
وَمُؤذيand one who harms الوَرىhumankind الإضرارcausing harm مِنهُfrom him بِهِto him أَضَرmore harmful
The harm of drunkenness is confined to the wine-drinker;
The harm of drink affects only the tippler,
But for one who harms humankind, the harm he causes is more harmful to himself.
While harming others inflicts harm upon oneself.
فَلَوso if أَنَّthat مَنthe one who فيin قَلبهhis heart أَضمَرharbored الأَذىmalice
يَلوحappears عَلَيهِon him مِنfrom أَذيَّتهthe harm he causes أَثَرa trace
So if one who harbored malice in his heart
If the heart of one who intends harm
Bore a visible trace of the harm he caused,
Bore traces of his harmful ways,
لبانthen it would become clear لَكَto you السكرانthe drunkard مَنwho هُوَhe مِنهماof the two of them
وَأَيّهماand which of the two فيin حالَةٍa state كُلّهاall of it عِبرcautionary lessons
It would be clear to you which of the two was the drunkard,
It would be clear to you, comparing the two,
And which was in a state full of cautionary lessons.
Which is in a state that offers lessons.
