صدمتَ بِهِ مِن جَحفَلٍ بَعدَ جَحفَلِ
And a chestnut steed, swift despite fatigue—how often
With blond forelock, always winning the race
You have charged with him into mighty army after mighty army!
You have charged again and again through army after army

I wished to praise him, but describing him was beyond me;
I wanted to praise you but your description leaves me speechless
So I relied on the words of Ibn Hujr:
So I rely on Ibn Hajar's words about you

Charging, retreating, advancing, withdrawing—all at once,
Attacking and withdrawing, advancing and retreating all at once
Like a boulder of rock hurled down from on high by the torrent.
Like a boulder firmly rooted, washed by floods from above
