أَيَكونُcan … be? دِمنُdung-heaps قَرارَةٍa hollow مَوطوءَةٍtrampled
أَيَكونُ دِمنُ قَرارَةٍ مَوطوءَةٍ
نَبَتَتsprouted بخُبثٍin filth مِثلَlike آلِthe family of مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
نَبَتَت بخُبثٍ مِثلَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Can the dung-heaps of a trampled hollow,
Is there a house on trampled ground
sprung from filth, be like the family of Muhammad?
That grew with malice like the family of Muhammad?
أَيهاتَfar from it! حَلَّتsettled فيin السَماءِthe sky بُيوتُهُمtheir houses
أَيهاتَ حَلَّت في السَماءِ بُيوتُهُم
وَأَقامَand remained بَيتُكَyour house بِالحَضيضِin the depths الأَقعَدِlowest
وَأَقامَ بَيتُكَ بِالحَضيضِ الأَقعَدِ
Far from it! Their houses have settled in the sky,
Alas, their homes settled in the sky
while your house has remained in the lowest depths.
While your home stands at the lowest place
أَوor سِرتَyou journeyed بِالخَطَفىwith al-Khatafa لِتُدرِكَto catch up with دارِماًDarim
أَو سِرتَ بِالخَطَفى لِتُدرِكَ دارِماً
أَيهاتَfar from it! جارَveered astray بِكَwith you الطَريقُthe road المُهتَديthe rightly guided
أَيهاتَ جارَ بِكَ الطَريقُ المُهتَدي
Or did you journey with al-Khatafa to catch up with Darim?
Did you walk stealthily to overtake people’s homes?
Far from it! The right road has led you astray.
Alas, the guided path turned against you
