قضيتم بحكم الحبّ يا جيرة الشعبِ
وبدّلتمُand you replaced بالبعدwith distance عنfrom ربعكمyour dwelling قربيmy nearness
وبدّلتمُ بالبعد عن ربعكم قربي
You have ruled by love’s law, O neighbors of the ravine,
You judged with love's rule, O neighbors of the people's heart
And replaced my nearness with distance from your dwelling.
And replaced nearness to your abode with my remoteness
فماso there is no ليfor me سبيلٌway للسلوّto forgetting وحبُّكمand love for you
فما لي سبيلٌ للسلوّ وحبُّكم
ذخائرُtreasures مفعولاتُهits effects ملأتhave filled قلبيmy heart
ذخائرُ مفعولاتُه ملأت قلبي
I have no way to forget, for my love for you—
Yet I have no means of solace, though I love you
Its effects are treasures that have filled my heart.
The treasures of your actions filled my heart
وماand there is no ليَfor me منany حسنٍvirtue سوىexcept حبّlove of حسنكمyour beauty
وما ليَ من حسنٍ سوى حبّ حسنكم
وعذريand my excuse هواكمpassion for you فاعذرونيso pardon me بلاwithout عتبreproach
وعذري هواكم فاعذروني بلا عتب
I have no virtue except love for your beauty.
And I have no beauty but love of your beauty
And my excuse is my passion for you; so pardon me without reproach.
And my excuse is my passion for you, so excuse me without reproach
إذاif كانis ذنبيmy sin عندكمin your eyes صبوتيmy infatuation بكمwith you
إذا كان ذنبي عندكم صبوتي بكم
خذواtake حسناتيmy good deeds واتركونيand leave me علىin ذنبيmy sin
خذوا حسناتي واتركوني على ذنبي
If my sin in your eyes is my infatuation with you,
If my sin to you all is my yearning for you
Take my good deeds and leave me in my sin.
