The lady of the tent has revealed what lay hidden in her unveiled form:
The one with charm has expressed what was hidden in her beauty
Every beauty that voiced the melody of a meaning that enraptured.
Every charm expressed a melody's meaning that was most pleasing
شمسٌa sun بدتappeared فيin الغسقthe dusk تخجلputs to shame بدرthe full moon of الأفقthe horizon
كمhow many كوكبٌa star فيin الشفقthe twilight بهاby her غداbecame محتجباveiled
A sun appeared at dusk, putting the horizon's full moon to shame.
A sun appeared in the darkness, shaming the horizon's full moon
How many a star in the twilight became veiled by her!
So many stars in the dusk faded away because of her
كمhow many منof فتىa youth قدindeed فتنتshe bewitched مذsince باللحاظwith glances قدindeed رنتshe gazed
فكأنّهاso she seemed لمّاwhen انثنتshe swayed غصنٌa bough يرنّحهsways it الصباthe east wind
How many a youth she has bewitched since she cast her glances!
How many a lad she has seduced with just a glance
So, when she swayed, she seemed a bough rocked by the east wind.
It's as if when she glanced away, a branch sighed from the morning breeze
قدindeed عطرتshe perfumed زهرthe blossoms of الربىthe hills وأظهرتand she brought forth نضحthe fragrant exhalation of الكباincense
والصبّand the lovesick lover منsince عهدthe days of الصباyouth فيin ركبthe caravan of نجدٍNajd قدindeed صباyearned
She has perfumed the blossoms of the hills and released the scent of incense.
She scented the meadow's flowers and brought out the brilliance of stars
And the lovesick lover, since the days of youth, has yearned amid Najd's caravan.
And youth from the days of youth pours in the caravan of Nejd
ظهرتshe appeared بكلّin every مظهرٍmanifestation بحالin the state of شأنa matter مضمرٍconcealed
وبكلّand through every طرفeye أحورٍdark-pupilled سَنَّordained الهوىlove وندباand encouraged
She appeared in every form, in the guise of a hidden mystery.
She appeared in every guise, with a state of hidden affairs
And through every dark-pupilled eye, love was ordained and encouraged.
And with each flirtatious glance, she lit the fires of love and called them
فهيso she is كؤسgoblets خمرتيmy wine وهيand she is عروسthe bride of صبوتيmy yearning
صحويmy sobriety بهاthrough her وسكرتيand my intoxication كمhow many ذقتI tasted منهاfrom her مشرباa draught
So she is the goblets of my wine, and she is the bride of my yearning.
She is my wine cup, she is the bride of my intoxication
My sobriety and my intoxication come through her; how many a draught I have tasted from her!
She sobers me and makes me drunk, how much I have sipped from her
حاليmy state بهwith him حالthe state of الّذيone who عهدthe covenant of الهوىlove لمdid not ينبذcast aside
ولذاand therefore يناديهاhe calls to her خذيtake ياO منيتيmy heart's desire روحيmy soul جباas a free gift
My state with him is that of one who has not cast aside love's covenant.
My state with her is like one accustomed to love from long ago
And so he calls to her: 'Take my soul as a gift, O my heart's desire.'
And so he calls to her "Take me, my soul, my all"
