أحرقت نار الجنان وَجْنةَ البدر الجنان

ولاح من ألحاظه البرق اليماني

The fire of paradise—the full moon's cheek—burned the heart.

The fire of heaven burned the garden of the full moon

And Yemeni lightning flashed from his glances.

And lightning flashed from his glances, Yemeni in origin

فبان سرّي ولست أدري وهان عندي في الهوى

فبان سرّي ولست أدري وهان عندي في الهوى

صعب الهوان

صعب الهوان

So my secret was revealed, though I know not how; and in love I made light of

So my secret was revealed, though I did not know, and it was easy for me in love

the hardship of humiliation.

To be disgraced

راح طرفي وقت راحي يجتلي ورد اقتراحي

راح طرفي وقت راحي يجتلي ورد اقتراحي

منه جنّة الوجنات في خدّ الرداح

منه جنّة الوجنات في خدّ الرداح

My gaze began, as I drank my wine, to behold the rose I desired

My eyes went in the time of their comfort to pick the roses of my suggestion

from him—the garden of cheeks on the full-figured woman's cheek.

From it the gardens of gardens on the cheek of the young gazelle

فقدت وجدي وجدت فقدي

فقدت وجدي وجدت فقدي

ولذّ لي ذلّي لدى عزّ الغواني

ولذّ لي ذلّي لدى عزّ الغواني

I lost my ecstasy; I found my loss.

I lost my ecstasy and found my loss

And my abasement grew sweet to me before the glory of beautiful women.

And my humiliation was sweet to me in the presence of the proud beauty

كم بربّات الجمال من جمالٍ في المجالي

كم بربّات الجمال من جمالٍ في المجالي

ووصل وصل كان في أوج المعالي

ووصل وصل كان في أوج المعالي

How much beauty lies in the mistresses of beauty, in their appearances!

How many beauties of beauty are there in the meadows

And union arrived, one that was at the summit of eminence.

And a union, a union that was at the height of hopes

والوصل الزَمْ إن كنت تعلم

والوصل الزَمْ إن كنت تعلم

فعندنا للمقتفي منع الأماني

فعندنا للمقتفي منع الأماني

And hold fast to union, if you know,

And union is necessary, if you know

for among us, wishes are withheld from the follower.

For we forbid desires for the emulator

ربّ صلّ دواماً سرمدا وصلّ سلاماً على نبي

ربّ صلّ دواماً سرمدا وصلّ سلاماً على نبي

ذكره يبرئ السقام

ذكره يبرئ السقام

O Lord, send blessings continually, eternally, and blessings of peace upon a prophet

O Lord, bless with everlasting continuation and send peace upon the Prophet

whose remembrance cures sickness,

Whose mention heals the sick

والآل الأبرار والصحب الأخيار

والآل الأبرار والصحب الأخيار

ما فكَّ مسك مدحهم ختم الدنان

ما فكَّ مسك مدحهم ختم الدنان

and upon the righteous family and the virtuous companions,

And upon the virtuous family and the righteous companions

so long as the musk of their praise breaks the seal of the wine jars.

The musk of whose praise is sealed by Eternity
