وجّهthe face منthe one whom أهواهI love him أسفرshone forth عنwith صباحٍdawn وصِباحand a lamp
وجّه من أهواه أسفر عن صباحٍ وصِباح
فيin التجلّيthe unveiling حيثwhere انجلىhe became manifest
في التجلّي حيث انجلى
The face of the one I love shone forth with dawn and lamplight,
My beloved's radiance unveiled a dawn and a bright morning
in the unveiling, where he came into view.
In that revelation where he shone
وجلاand made gleam كأسيmy cup منwith صافيpure الراحwine
وجلا كأسي من صافي الراح
ووجديand my yearning فيهfor him راحpassed away
ووجدي فيه راح
And he made my cup gleam with pure wine,
And my cup gleamed with the pure comfort
and my yearning for him passed away.
And I found solace in it
وانجلىand he appeared فيin حسنbeauty مظهرoutward form منamong ملاحfair beauties ورداحand full-hipped beauties
وانجلى في حسن مظهر من ملاح ورداح
كلّevery هيفاslender-waisted maiden تسبيcaptures الحجاthe wits
كلّ هيفا تسبي الحجا
And he appeared in a lovely form among fair and full-hipped beauties;
And brightness in the beautiful appearance of the sail and the meadow
every slender-waisted maiden steals the wits
Every alluring one captivates the minds
منfrom فتىa young man هائمlovesick وبالسكرand in drunkenness راحhe went away
من فتى هائم وبالسكر راح
فيin غرامٍpassion ذيmarked by افتضاحdisgrace
في غرامٍ ذي افتضاح
of a lovesick youth, who went away drunk,
Of an infatuated and intoxicated youth
in a passion that brings disgrace.
In a love of scandal
فيin رياضٍgardens تتعطّرbecome fragrant حيثwhere زهرblossoms الوصلunion فاحspread their fragrance
في رياضٍ تتعطّر حيث زهر الوصل فاح
فاحwafted نفحاًin fragrant breaths ذاكthat الشذاsweet scent
فاح نفحاً ذاك الشذا
In fragrant gardens, where the blossoms of union spread their scent,
In gardens that exude fragrance where the flower of union bloomed
that sweet scent wafted in fragrant breaths—
That fragrance diffused the redolence
عرفfragrance الناديthe gathering place وهوand it is الفيّاحfar-diffusing
عرف النادي وهو الفيّاح
فيin الروابيthe hills والبطاحand the lowlands
في الروابي والبطاح
the perfume of the gathering place, spreading far and wide,
It knew the club and it is the key
over the hills and lowlands.
In the hills and low lands
جامعmosque المحبوبthe beloved أزهرbloomed بورودٍwith roses وأقاحand daisies
جامع المحبوب أزهر بورودٍ وأقاح
كرياضٍlike gardens فيin الأزدهاsplendor
كرياضٍ في الأزدها
The beloved's mosque bloomed with roses and daisies,
The gathering of the beloved blossomed with roses and flowers
like gardens in their splendor.
Like gardens in the meadows
طابتgrew sweet عرفاًin fragrance يحيىrevives الأرواحthe souls
طابت عرفاً يحيى الأرواح
فيin غدوٍّmorning ورواحand evening
في غدوٍّ ورواح
They grew sweet with a fragrance that revives souls,
Their fragrance was good, enlivening the souls
morning and evening.
