صفا كأس السماع لنا فطبنا

وساقي الراح بالأقداح دائرْ

The cup of listening grew clear for us, and we rejoiced;

Pour the cup of music for us, so we are delighted,

and the wine-bearer circles with the goblets.

And pass around the wine with goblets, server.

فهِمنا في الهوى حتّى فهمنا

فهِمنا في الهوى حتّى فهمنا

من الآلات آيات الأشائرْ

من الآلات آيات الأشائرْ

So we were lost in love until we understood

We became immersed in passion until we understood

from the instruments the signs of intimations.

From instruments, signs of the months.

ولاح الحبّ يُجلى في محيّاً

ولاح الحبّ يُجلى في محيّاً

جماليٍّ وقد رفع الستائر

جماليٍّ وقد رفع الستائر

And love shone forth, revealed in a countenance

Love's radiance shone clearly in a beloved

of beauty, having lifted the veils.

Of beauty, when he lifted the veils.

فطاب لنا الشهود لدى التجلّي

فطاب لنا الشهود لدى التجلّي

وغاب بأنسه من كان حاضر

وغاب بأنسه من كان حاضر

So witnessing grew sweet to us at the manifestation,

Being present at the revelation was sweet for us,

and whoever was present was lost in its intimacy.

And with his charm, those who were there vanished.
