The ambergris of generosity, in the nostrils of the noble,
The ambergris of generosity in the noses of the noble,
Wafted through al-Sham, fragrant in the nostrils.
Its fragrance spread in Damascus, perfuming the breath,

The fragrance from him perfumed the land of Damascus,
The perfume from it scented the land of Damascus,
And the blossoms of its garden began to smile.
And its blossoms smiled in the garden at dawn,

A sea of virtue and an ocean of pearls, such
For gifts, and the other for the beauty of verse.

Refined in nature and pleasing in company, so he became
A watering place, pleasant to drink from and thronged with crowds.
A delicious spring of abundant crowds,

He is like the full moon appearing and disappearing
To appear again after concealment.
For an emergence that comes after concealment,

Indeed, if the full moon in the sky never vanished,
If the moon of the sky did not set it would not
No eye among all humankind would await it.
Be awaited by the eyes of all people,

May he remain at the summit of eminence, with perfection,
Lasting at the peak of glory in perfection
And joy, and the attainment of a good end.
And joyful celebration and attaining a beautiful conclusion.
