the cup of arrival, for casting off the bridle delights me,

A cup of roses, as shedding my inhibitions pleasures me,

في معتلي أوج الصعود في المنزل

السامي السعود إذ تنجلي ذات الخمار

السامي السعود إذ تنجلي ذات الخمار

at the lofty summit of ascent, in the abode

At the height of my ascent in the sublime, exalted abode,

lofty in good fortune, as the veiled one reveals herself.

As she of the veil reveals herself.

قد لذّ لي خلع العذار في منيتي

قد لذّ لي خلع العذار في منيتي

معذّب قلبي بنارٍ في جنّتي

معذّب قلبي بنارٍ في جنّتي

Casting off the bridle for my heart's desire has indeed delighted me.

Shedding my inhibitions pleasures me in my death,

My heart is tormented by a fire in my paradise.

My heart tortured by fire in my paradise,

ما في الهوى للصبّ عارٌ في الصبوةِ

ما في الهوى للصبّ عارٌ في الصبوةِ

حيث سليمي تنجلي تحت الستار

In love, the lover bears no shame in passionate longing,

No shame in passion for the young lover,

where Sulayma is revealed beneath the curtain.

As my Suleima reveals herself beneath the curtain.

يا عاذلي خلّ الملام واشطح معي

يا عاذلي خلّ الملام واشطح معي

قد جدّ وجدي والهيام فلا أعي

قد جدّ وجدي والهيام فلا أعي

O my reproacher, leave off blame and speak ecstatically with me.

O reproacher, cease blaming and frolic with me,

Indeed, my ecstasy and love-madness have intensified, so I no longer comprehend.

My love and madness have intensified, I cannot restrain,

ولم أجد ذوق الكلام في مسمعي

ولم أجد ذوق الكلام في مسمعي

من يستمع للعذّال فهو الحمار

من يستمع للعذّال فهو الحمار

And I have found no savor in the speech that reaches my ear.

I found no taste for words in my hearing,

Whoever listens to the reproachers is an ass.

Who listens to the censurers is but a donkey.

نحن الألى سكر الهوى من سكرنا

نحن الألى سكر الهوى من سكرنا

ولم يكن مرّ السوى في فكرنا

ولم يكن مرّ السوى في فكرنا

We are those through whose intoxication love grew drunk.

We whom the madness of passion has intoxicated,

And nothing else had ever crossed our minds.

The bitterness of sobriety never occurred in our thoughts,

ولكلّ عبدٍ ما نوى في أمرنا

ولكلّ عبدٍ ما نوى في أمرنا

كأس هوانا ممتلي صرف العقار

كأس هوانا ممتلي صرف العقار

And each servant has what he intended in our affair.

Each servant intends what he intended in our matter,

Our cup of love is filled with unmixed wine.

A cup of disgrace filled to the brim with pure wine.

رياض جنّات الهدى موردنا

رياض جنّات الهدى موردنا

أثمارها دفع الردى مشهدنا

أثمارها دفع الردى مشهدنا

The meadows of guidance's paradises are our watering place.

Gardens of righteous guidance are our pasture,

Their fruits ward off death; this is what we behold.

Its fruits dispel all adversity, our spectacle,

أغصانها غنّى بها منشدنا

أغصانها غنّى بها منشدنا

قم واستمع يا ذا الخلي صوت الهزار

قم واستمع يا ذا الخلي صوت الهزار

Our singer sang among their branches.

Its branches, we sing of its riches,

Rise and listen, O carefree one, to the nightingale's voice.

Arise and listen, O heart's companion, to the voice of delight.

وقد شدا يحدو القلوب إلى الحمى

وقد شدا يحدو القلوب إلى الحمى

مصلّياً على المحبوب مسلّما

مصلّياً على المحبوب مسلّما

And he has sung, urging hearts toward the sanctuary,

As it inspires hearts to passion,

invoking blessings upon the Beloved and offering greetings of peace:

Praying for the beloved, greeting,

المصطفى كنز الغيوب سرّ العما

المصطفى كنز الغيوب سرّ العما

نور الوجود الأول العالي الفخار

نور الوجود الأول العالي الفخار

Al-Mustafa, treasure of the unseen realms, mystery of the primordial Cloud,

The Most Praised, treasure of mysteries, secret of the Divine,

the first light of existence, exalted in glory.

The Light of existence, the First, the Exalted, the Pride.
