يا سالك بالهدى طريق البكري

غب عن زيدٍ وهكذا عن عمرو

O you who tread al-Bakri’s path with guidance,

Become oblivious to Zayd, and likewise to ʿAmr;

واشرب إن كنت مغرماً بالسكر

من خمرةٍ لا إله إلّا الله

And drink, if you are enamored of intoxication,

From the wine of “There is no god but God.”

كن بالذكر كبلبل الأقفاص

لا ترهب من دانٍ ولا من قاص

In remembrance, be like a nightingale in cages.

Fear neither one nearby nor one far away.

وادخل فيها بسورة الإخلاص

كي تعرف لا إله إلّا الله

And enter it through Surah al-Ikhlas,

So that you may know “There is no god but God.”

أسرع بالسير واجتهد يا سالك

حتى تقضي وكل شيء هالك

Hasten on the journey and strive, O wayfarer,

Until you pass away, while everything is perishing.

فالكون بأسره ظلام حالك

قد نار بلا إله إلّا الله

For the cosmos in its entirety is pitch-black darkness;

It has indeed become radiant through “There is no god but God.”

أكثر عدد الصلاة والتسليم

في الدهر على النبيّ ذي التكريم

Multiply prayers of blessing and salutations of peace,

Throughout time, upon the honored Prophet,

والآل مع الأصحاب بالتعميم

يا قائل لا إله إلا الله

And his family, together with all the Companions,

O you who say, “There is no god but God.”
