ياO نَبِيّاًa prophet بُعِثتَyou were sent لِلخَلقِto creation رَحمَهْa mercy
يا نَبِيّاً بُعِثتَ لِلخَلقِ رَحمَهْ
وَلَهُand he has أُمةٌa community بِهِthrough him خَيرُthe best أُمَّهْcommunity
وَلَهُ أُمةٌ بِهِ خَيرُ أُمَّهْ
O Prophet, you were sent as a mercy to creation,
O Prophet sent as mercy for all creation
And he has a community that, through him, is the best of communities.
And for him is a nation, the best of nations
أَصبَحَتhas come to أُمَّةُthe community الإِجابَةِof response تَدعوcalls upon
أَصبَحَت أُمَّةُ الإِجابَةِ تَدعو
كَyou وَأَنتَand you المُجابُone whose prayer is answered أَنعِمbestow graciously بِهِمَّهْwith resolve
كَ وَأَنتَ المُجابُ أَنعِم بِهِمَّهْ
The community that answered the call now calls upon
The nation of response calls upon you
You, whose prayers are answered; favor us with your resolve.
As you are the Responder, so favor them
وَتَدارَكand rescue بِالنَصرِwith victory مِلَّتَكَyour faith الحَقthe true (continued)
وَتَدارَك بِالنَصرِ مِلَّتَكَ الحَق
قَcompletes 'true' فَقَدfor indeed نالَهاhas overtaken it مِنَfrom الدَهرِthe age ظُلمَهْdarkness
قَ فَقَد نالَها مِنَ الدَهرِ ظُلمَهْ
And rescue your true faith with victory,
And save your true religion with victory
For darkness from the age has overtaken it.
It has suffered injustice from time
إِنَّindeed سَيفَthe sword الرَسولِof the Messenger ماnot زالَceased مَسلوdrawn (continued)
إِنَّ سَيفَ الرَسولِ ما زالَ مَسلو
لَcompletes 'drawn' اِنتِصارٍvictory بِكُلِّwith every فَتكٍdeadly assault وَنَقمَهand vengeance
لَ اِنتِصارٍ بِكُلِّ فَتكٍ وَنَقمَه
Indeed, the Messenger's sword remains drawn
Indeed the sword of the Messenger remains unsheathed
For victory, with every deadly stroke and act of vengeance.
For triumph through all severity and vengeance
حاشَfar be it لِلَهِfor God أَنthat يَرىhe should see مِلَّةَthe faith الحَقof truth (continued)
حاشَ لِلَهِ أَن يَرى مِلَّةَ الحَق
قِcompletes 'truth' أُصيبَتhas been stricken وَلاand not يَجرِّدhe unsheathes عَزمَهhis resolve
قِ أُصيبَت وَلا يَجرِّد عَزمَه
God forbid that he should see the true faith
God forbid the religion of truth be stricken
Stricken, and not unsheathe his resolve.
And determination not be stirred to act
ياO رَسولَMessenger الإِلَهِof God سَلهُask Him فَتُعطىso you will be given
يا رَسولَ الإِلَهِ سَلهُ فَتُعطى
لَكَyou have جاهٌstanding لَدىbefore عُلاهُHis exaltedness وَحُرمَهand sacred honor
لَكَ جاهٌ لَدى عُلاهُ وَحُرمَه
O Messenger of God, ask Him, and you shall receive;
O Messenger of God, ask and you will be given
You have standing before His exalted majesty, and sacred honor.
For you have standing with His exaltedness and sanctity
ياO رَسولَMessenger الإلَهِof God حاشاكَfar be it from you أَنthat تَغyou be heedless (continued)
يا رَسولَ الإلَهِ حاشاكَ أَن تَغ
فَلَcompletes 'be heedless' عَنof مِصرَEgypt إِذsince لَهاshe has مِنكَfrom you ذِمَّهa pledge of protection
فَلَ عَن مِصرَ إِذ لَها مِنكَ ذِمَّه
O Messenger of God, far be it from you to be heedless
O Messenger of God, far be it from you to neglect
Of Egypt, for she has a pledge of protection from you.
Egypt, for it has protection from you
كَمhow many رَضيعٍan infant بِهاin her يُوَحِّدُprofesses the oneness of رَبّاًa Lord
كَم رَضيعٍ بِها يُوَحِّدُ رَبّاً
وَكَبيرٍand an adult أَدّىhas rendered لِشَرعِكَto your law خِدمَهservice
وَكَبيرٍ أَدّى لِشَرعِكَ خِدمَه
How many an infant there proclaims the oneness of the Lord,
How many infants profess His Oneness there
And how many an adult has rendered service to your law.
And how many elders served your law devotedly
ولَكَمand indeed how many عالمٍa scholar بجامعهاat her congregational mosque الأزal-Azhar (continued)
ولَكَم عالمٍ بجامعها الأز
هرِcompletes 'al-Azhar' أمسىspent the evening يبثُّspreads للناسto the people عِلمَهhis knowledge
هرِ أمسى يبثُّ للناس عِلمَه
And how many a scholar in her al-Azhar mosque
And how many scholars in its renowned university
Has spent the evening spreading his knowledge among the people.
Spend the night spreading knowledge for people
وَلَكَمand indeed how many عارفٍa mystic بِعِلمِin the knowledge of التَجَلّيdivine manifestation
وَلَكَم عارفٍ بِعِلمِ التَجَلّي
حيَّرَbewildered الحالُthe spiritual state فيin تَجَلّيهِits manifestation فَهمَهhis understanding
حيَّرَ الحالُ في تَجَلّيهِ فَهمَه
And how many a mystic versed in divine manifestation
And how many mystics with knowledge of revelation
Has had his understanding bewildered by the spiritual state in its manifestation.
Perplex the mind in their mystical awareness
ياO رَسولَMessenger الرِضاof divine favor إِلَيكَto you رَفَعناwe have raised
يا رَسولَ الرِضا إِلَيكَ رَفَعنا
أَمرَthe cause دينٍof faith فَاِرفَعso raise لِماfor what قَدindeed أَهَمَّهdistressed it
أَمرَ دينٍ فَاِرفَع لِما قَد أَهَمَّه
O Messenger of divine favor, to you we have raised
O Messenger of acceptance, we raise to you
The cause of the faith; raise it up for what has distressed it.
The matter of religion, so raise what concerns it
مَنwhoever يَكُنis فيكَin you نَصرُهُhis victory وَتَراهُand you see him الthe
مَن يَكُن فيكَ نَصرُهُ وَتَراهُ ال
أُسدُlions تَخشىfear لِقاهُmeeting him فيin كُلِّevery أَجمَهthicket
أُسدُ تَخشى لِقاهُ في كُلِّ أَجمَه
Whoever has his victory in you—you behold him:
Whoever has your support and is seen as
The lions fear meeting him in every thicket.
The lion, feared when met in every arena
بِكَthrough you عِقدُthe necklace الإِسلامِof Islam نُظِّمَwas strung قِدماًlong ago
بِكَ عِقدُ الإِسلامِ نُظِّمَ قِدماً
كَيفَhow أَيديthe hands اللِئامِof the vile تَنثُرُscatter نَظمَهits arrangement
كَيفَ أَيدي اللِئامِ تَنثُرُ نَظمَه
Through you, Islam's necklace was strung long ago;
With you the structure of Islam was organized long ago
How can the hands of the vile scatter its ordered beads?
How can the hands of villains scatter its organization
كَمhow often نُناديكَwe call upon you ياO شَهيدwitness بِغَيبٍin the unseen
كَم نُناديكَ يا شَهيد بِغَيبٍ
فَنَرىthen we see بِالغِياثِthrough succor أَعظَمَthe greatest هِمَّهresolve
فَنَرى بِالغِياثِ أَعظَمَ هِمَّه
How often we call upon you, O witness in the unseen,
How we call upon you, O martyred absent one
And through succor we see the greatest resolve.
And see in deliverance the greatest concern
هَذِهِthis غَزوَةٌa campaign أَتتَhas come فَاِحتَسِبهاso count it
هَذِهِ غَزوَةٌ أَتتَ فَاِحتَسِبها
للَّواتيto those which حَضرتَهاyou attended them كالتَّتِمَّهas the completion
للَّواتي حَضرتَها كالتَّتِمَّه
This is a campaign that has come; count it
This is an incursion, so consider it
As a completion of those you attended.
For those who attended it as completeness
كَمhow many جُنودٍtroops مِنَfrom المَلائِكِthe angels تَبغيseek
كَم جُنودٍ مِنَ المَلائِكِ تَبغي
لَكَfor you فيin حَومَةِthe thick المَلاحِمِof fierce battles خِدمَهservice
لَكَ في حَومَةِ المَلاحِمِ خِدمَه
How many troops from among the angels seek
How many angelic hosts seek
To serve you in the thick of fierce battles.
To serve you in the ferocity of battles
ياO طَبيبَphysician الإِسلامِof Islam أَعيانيhas exhausted me ذاthis الخَطthe calamity (continued)
يا طَبيبَ الإِسلامِ أَعياني ذا الخَط
بُcompletes 'calamity' وَمَنand who ذاis there سِواكَbesides you يُبرِئُcures سُقمَهits sickness
بُ وَمَن ذا سِواكَ يُبرِئُ سُقمَه
O physician of Islam, this calamity has exhausted me;
O healer of Islam, my eyes suffer this affliction
And who but you can cure its sickness?
And who but you can cure their sickness
قَدindeed نَحوناكَwe turned toward you نُعرِبُwe express clearly الحالَthe plight لَمّاwhen
قَد نَحوناكَ نُعرِبُ الحالَ لَمّا
دَهِمَتناoverwhelmed us مِنَfrom الحَوادِثِcalamities عُجمَهspeechlessness
دَهِمَتنا مِنَ الحَوادِثِ عُجمَه
Indeed, we have turned to you, making our plight plain, when
We have turned to you to interpret the situation when
Speechlessness born of calamities overwhelmed us.
We were struck by strange tribulations
فَعَلَيكَso upon you الصَلاةُblessings وَالآلِand the family وَالصَحand the companions (continued)
فَعَلَيكَ الصَلاةُ وَالآلِ وَالصَح
بِcompletes 'companions' كُماةِvaliant warriors الحُروبِof wars فيin كُلِّevery حَومَهbattlefield
بِ كُماةِ الحُروبِ في كُلِّ حَومَه
So blessings be upon you, and upon your family and companions,
So upon you, your family, and companions
Valiant warriors in every field of battle.
The resolute of war in every ferocious fray
وَعَلَيكَand upon you السَلامُpeace ماas long as سَلَّمَkeeps safe اللَGod (continued)
وَعَلَيكَ السَلامُ ما سَلَّمَ اللَ
هُcompletes 'God' جَلالَthe majesty الإِسلامَof Islam مِنfrom كُلِّevery وَصمَهstain
هُ جَلالَ الإِسلامَ مِن كُلِّ وَصمَه
And peace be upon you so long as God preserves
And upon you be peace as long as
The majesty of Islam from every stain.
God affirms the glory of Islam from all defiance
