ياO إماماًimam يمّمتهI sought him حيثsince أضحىhe became
يا إماماً يمّمته حيث أضحى
قدوةًa model للأنامfor humankind خيرَthe finest إمامِimam
قدوةً للأنام خيرَ إمامِ
O imam whom I sought, for he has become
O Imam whom destiny made
a model for humankind, the finest imam.
An example for people, the best Imam
قدindeed وفدناwe came as a delegation إليكto you ثمّthen حللناwe settled
قد وفدنا إليك ثمّ حللنا
فيin حماكyour sanctuary الساميlofty العليّexalted المقامstation
في حماك السامي العليّ المقام
We have come to you as a delegation, then settled
We came to you and then settled
in your lofty sanctuary, exalted in station.
In your lofty, supreme, sublime refuge
فتلقيتناso you welcomed us بوجهٍwith a face تندّىwas dewy
فتلقيتنا بوجهٍ تندّى
وبثغرٍand with a mouth قبلbefore القِرىthe guest-feast فيin ابتسامa smile
وبثغرٍ قبل القِرى في ابتسام
So you welcomed us with a dew-fresh face,
You welcomed us with a cheerful face
and with lips smiling before the guest-feast.
And a smile that outshone cities
شمسsun جدواكyour bounty أشرقتrose فيin سماءsky الthe
شمس جدواك أشرقت في سماء ال
حقّtruth تُجلَىis unveiled بالجودthrough generosity والإكرامand honor
حقّ تُجلَى بالجود والإكرام
The sun of your bounty rose in the sky of
The sun of your generosity rose in a sky where
truth, unveiled through generosity and honor.
Truth is revealed with generosity and honor
وأقلّand the least الجداthe bounty كنوزُtreasures علومٍbranches of learning
وأقلّ الجدا كنوزُ علومٍ
فُتِحتwere opened منfrom خزائنtreasuries الإلهامinspiration
فُتِحت من خزائن الإلهام
And the least of your bounty is treasures of learning,
Even the least of your generosity is treasures of knowledge
opened from the treasuries of inspiration.
Opened from the treasuries of inspiration
ولكَمand how many منّةٍa favor كعقدِlike a necklace لآلٍpearls
ولكَم منّةٍ كعقدِ لآلٍ
منكfrom you فيon جيدneck زمرةcommunity الإسلامIslam
منك في جيد زمرة الإسلام
And how many a favor, like a necklace of pearls,
And how many gifts like necklaces of pearls
from you adorns the neck of Islam's community!
From you on the neck of the Muslim nation
ولكand yours is المذهبُthe path الّذيwhich فيamong البراياall creatures
ولك المذهبُ الّذي في البرايا
مذهبٌa path نورهits light لكلّfor every ظلامdarkness
مذهبٌ نوره لكلّ ظلام
And yours is the path that, among all creatures,
And yours is the doctrine which in the wilds
is a path whose light is for every darkness.
A doctrine whose light dispels all darkness
نحنwe وفدa delegation الحمىthe sanctuary أتيناكwe came to you نبغيwe seek
نحن وفد الحمى أتيناك نبغي
عادةًa custom قدalready جرتhas prevailed بهاthrough it الفيضthe outpouring ناميgrowing
عادةً قد جرت بها الفيض نامي
We are the sanctuary's delegation; we came to you seeking
We the delegation of the protected land came to you seeking
a long-established custom, through which bounty grows.
A custom that has long brought abundant grace
كمhow often منحتyou bestowed الوفودَthe delegations جودَgenerosity أيادٍfavors
كم منحت الوفودَ جودَ أيادٍ
هيthey كالبحرlike the sea بالمكارمwith noble deeds طاميoverflowing
هي كالبحر بالمكارم طامي
How often you have bestowed generous favors on delegations!
How many delegations have you granted the generosity of open hands
They are like the sea, overflowing with noble deeds.
Like an ocean overflowing with noble deeds
ولكَمand how often منfrom عوائدrecurring gifts الفضلgrace مثليone like me
ولكَم من عوائد الفضل مثلي
جدتَyou gave generously فضلاًgraciously عليهupon him بالأنعامwith livestock
جدتَ فضلاً عليه بالأنعام
And how often, through recurring gifts of grace, has one like me
And how much gracious favor like mine
been graciously endowed by you with livestock!
Have you shown with gifts and favors
قدindeed حططناwe set down رحالناour baggage فيin رحابٍspacious courts
قد حططنا رحالنا في رحابٍ
ورميناand we cast down العصاthe staff بالاستسلامin surrender
ورمينا العصا بالاستسلام
We have set down our baggage in spacious courts,
We pitched our tents in a refuge
and cast down the staff in surrender.
And cast down our staffs in surrender
وبدارand in the house القِرىhospitality نزلناwe lodged ضيوفاًas guests
وبدار القِرى نزلنا ضيوفاً
نجتديwe seek bounty الجودgenerosity منfrom إمامimam الكرامthe generous
نجتدي الجود من إمام الكرام
And in the house of hospitality we lodged as guests,
And in the Abode of Nobility we came as guests
seeking bounty from the imam of the generous.
Seeking generosity from the Imam of the noble
فعليهso upon him رضوانgood pleasure ربّيmy Lord تعالىexalted is He
فعليه رضوان ربّي تعالى
تتوالىcomes in succession كالغيثlike rain فيin الإنسجامpouring down
تتوالى كالغيث في الإنسجام
So may the good pleasure of my Lord Most High rest upon him,
So may the pleasure of my Lord be upon him
coming in succession like pouring rain,
Flowing down like rain in harmony
ماas long as تجلّتappeared عرائسthe brides الجودgenerosity تجلىare unveiled
ما تجلّت عرائس الجود تجلى
بجمالwith the beauty الهدىguidance وكشفand the lifting اللثامthe veil
بجمال الهدى وكشف اللثام
as long as the brides of generosity appear, unveiled
When the brides of generosity appeared, there appeared
with the beauty of guidance and the lifting of the veil.
The beauty of guidance and rending of veils
ورأيناand we saw محاسنthe beauties الفيضthe outpouring لاحتshone forth
ورأينا محاسن الفيض لاحت
تتجلّىreveal themselves لناto us بحسنwith the beauty الختامthe close
تتجلّى لنا بحسن الختام
And we saw the beauties of the outpouring shine forth,
And we saw the beauties of grace shine forth
revealing themselves to us in a beautiful close.
Revealed to us in the best conclusion
