حبّlove for آلthe family of النبيّthe Prophet خالطmingled with لحميmy flesh
حبّ آل النبيّ خالط لحمي
كاختلاطlike the mingling of الضياlight بماءwith the water of العيونthe eyes
كاختلاط الضيا بماء العيون
Love for the Prophet’s family has mingled with my flesh,
My love for the Prophet's family intermingles with my flesh
As light mingles with the moisture of the eyes.
As water intermingles with the pupil of the eye.
وسرىand coursed فيthrough أعضاءthe limbs of جسميmy body كروحيlike my soul
وسرى في أعضاء جسمي كروحي
وجرىand flowed فيthrough مسامعيmy ears فاعذرونيso pardon me
وجرى في مسامعي فاعذروني
And it coursed through the limbs of my body like my soul,
It flowed through my body parts like my soul,
And flowed through my ears, so pardon me.
And streamed through my hearing, so pardon me.
أناI واللهby God مغرمٌpassionately in love فيin هواهمlove for them
أنا والله مغرمٌ في هواهم
بتّI spent the night فيin حبّهمlove for them حليفa companion of الشجونsorrows
بتّ في حبّهم حليف الشجون
I am, by God, passionately in love with them;
By God, I am infatuated with their love,
In love with them, I spent the night a companion to sorrows.
I have become an intimate friend of grief in their love.
ياO رفاقيmy companions إنّيindeed I am عليلailing التصابيyouthful passion
يا رفاقي إنّي عليل التصابي
علّلونيsoothe me بذكرهمwith remembrance of them علّلونيsoothe me
علّلوني بذكرهم علّلوني
O my companions, I am sick with youthful passion;
O my friends, I am lovesick,
Soothe me with remembrance of them—soothe me.
Make me sick with the mention of them, make me sick.
