    مهجتي عنده

    Joseph-like beauty;

    my soul is with him.

  2. فاسألوا بالحال

    عن دمي خدّه

    So ask, by its condition,

    his cheek about my blood:

  3. من عيوني سال

    فانظروا خدّه

    it flowed from my eyes,

    so look at his cheek.

  4. قلبي الهائم

    في الهوى ناري

    My bewildered heart,

    in love, is my fire.

  5. لحظه الصارم

    للحشا باري

    His sword-sharp glance

    whittles away the vitals.

  6. للبدور سما

    في محيّاه

    A sky for full moons

    lies in his countenance.

  7. بالجمال سما

    عزّت أسماه

    In beauty he rose high;

    his names grew exalted.

  8. حسنه وسما

    هند أسماه

    His beauty left its mark;

    Hind is among his names.

  9. مهجة السائم

    بين أفكاري

    The grazing wanderer's soul

    is amid my thoughts.

  10. نورها الراقم

    نقش أستاري

    Its inscribing light

    etched my veils.

  11. في الفؤاد له

    حيث كنت مقام

    In the heart he has,

    wherever I am, a dwelling.

  12. والأنام لهوا

    في هوى وهيام

    And mortals reveled

    in love and rapture.

  13. والحشا وله

    والغريم غرام

    And the heart is yearning,

    and the creditor is love.

  14. والشجي الغارم

    دمعه الجاري

    And the sorrowful debtor,

    his tears flowing,

  15. فيه كالعائم

    وسط أبحار

    is like a swimmer in them,

    amid seas.

  16. كن ببحر هواه

    سفن مجراها

    Be, in the sea of his love,

    ships upon their course;

  17. سر باسم الله

    وهو مرساها

    journey in God's name,

    and He is their anchorage.

  18. فاز من ناجاه

    في الهوى آها

    Whoever communed with Him triumphed,

    in love, sighing 'Ah!'

  19. فافهم اللازم

    أو تشا داري

    So understand what is required,

    or, if you wish, be discreet.

  20. عزمك الحازم

    صاحب الدار

    Your steadfast resolve

    is the master of the house.

  21. أبرزته شؤون

    بهجة المحبوب

    He was revealed by the workings

    of the beloved's radiance.

  22. مظهرٌ مكنونٌ

    كشفه محجوب

    A hidden manifestation;

    his unveiling is veiled

  23. من عيان عيون

    تجري بالمطلوب

    from the sight of eyes

    that flow with what is sought.

  24. يجلي للكاتم

    كأس أسراري

    He reveals to the secret-keeper

    the cup of my secrets,

  25. من مدام دائمٍ

    منه أسكاري

    of everlasting wine;

    from it comes my intoxication.

  26. صلّ يا جامع

    واعطف التسليم

    Send blessings, O Gatherer,

    and add greetings of peace,

  27. للهدى الجامع

    قبلة التقديم

    upon the all-embracing guidance,

    the qibla of precedence.

  28. فرقهُ الجامع

    للمعنى القديم

    His unifying distinction,

    for the eternal meaning:

  29. حكمة الحاكم

    حكمه الجاري

    the Ruler's wisdom,

    His flowing decree,

  30. فاتح خاتم

    بعثةَ الباري

    opening and sealing

    the Creator's mission.
