God’s power and will have decreed

God's decree was fulfilled, and His will

my separation, and this was His intent.

To separate me, which was His intent.

والرضا بالقضاء فرضٌ علينا

وهو للعبد طاعةً وعبادهْ

وهو للعبد طاعةً وعبادهْ

And acceptance of the decree is our duty,

Accepting fate's decree is incumbent upon us,

and for the servant it is obedience and worship.

إنّ تسليمنا إلى الله أمسى

إنّ تسليمنا إلى الله أمسى

سُلَّم الارتِقا لأوج السعاده

سُلَّم الارتِقا لأوج السعاده

Indeed, our surrender to God has become

Our surrender to God has become

a ladder of ascent to the summit of happiness.

The ladder of ascension to the peak of bliss.

غير أنّي من لوعتي واشتياقي

غير أنّي من لوعتي واشتياقي

وزفيري من النوى وزياده

وزفيري من النوى وزياده

Yet I, in my anguish and longing,

Except my yearning and longing

and my sighing from separation, ever increasing,

And my sighs of passion grow more.

سيما منذ غاب بدر سعودي

سيما منذ غاب بدر سعودي

من شهودي لوجه نجل سعاده

من شهودي لوجه نجل سعاده

especially since the full moon of my good fortune vanished

Especially since the full moon of Saud

from my sight—the face of Saʿāda’s son,

Disappeared from my sight, the son of bliss,

خير خلٍّ تخلّل الروح منّي

خير خلٍّ تخلّل الروح منّي

ومن الجسم يسترقّ فؤاده

ومن الجسم يسترقّ فؤاده

the finest friend, who has permeated my soul

The best companion that pervaded my soul

and holds the body’s heart captive.

And stole my heart away.

دام من ذكر ربّه في شهودٍ

دام من ذكر ربّه في شهودٍ

وترقِّي سعادةٍ وسياده

وترقِّي سعادةٍ وسياده

May he remain, through remembrance of his Lord, in spiritual witnessing,

May he, whose remembrance of his Lord continues

and rise in happiness and eminence.

In ascension, bliss and supremacy, endure.

قد أتاني كتابه كربيعٍ

قد أتاني كتابه كربيعٍ

زهرُه بالوفاء كان وداده

زهرُه بالوفاء كان وداده

His letter came to me like springtime;

His letter came to me like springtime,

his faithful affection was its blossom.

Its flowers of loyalty and affection.

فاح منه نفح الصفا والتهاني

فاح منه نفح الصفا والتهاني

وبه قد شممت نشر الإفاده

وبه قد شممت نشر الإفاده

The fragrance of sincerity and felicitations wafted from it,

From it blew the fragrance of purity and greetings,

and through it I inhaled the fragrance of benefit.

And through it I sensed the spreading of benefit.
