هي دار الحبيب ما هي داري

هي دار الحبيب ما هي داري

حلّها بالبها وما أنا داري

حلّها بالبها وما أنا داري

It is the Beloved’s abode, not mine.

He dwelt there in splendor, while I was unaware.

وبتعمير داره قد تجلّى

وبتعمير داره قد تجلّى

بجمالٍ وقد قضى بالعمار

بجمالٍ وقد قضى بالعمار

And in making his abode flourish, he revealed himself

in beauty, and decreed its flourishing.

وإذا ما الحبيب عمّر داراً

وإذا ما الحبيب عمّر داراً

لتجلّيه أشرقت بالدراري

لتجلّيه أشرقت بالدراري

And whenever the Beloved makes an abode flourish,

through his self-revelation it shines with brilliant stars.

فتأمّل كواكب النور لاحت

فتأمّل كواكب النور لاحت

في علاها والسرّ بالنور ساري

في علاها والسرّ بالنور ساري

So contemplate the stars of light that have appeared

in its heights, while the mystery courses through the light.

بدت لي شموس الوصل فانكشفت حجبي

بدت لي شموس الوصل فانكشفت حجبي

ولاحت لي الأنوار من حانة الجذب

ولاحت لي الأنوار من حانة الجذب

The suns of union appeared to me, so my veils were lifted.

And the lights shone for me from the tavern of rapture.

وما ذقت هجراً والحبيب مسامري

وما ذقت هجراً والحبيب مسامري

يوالي فؤادي بالتداني وبالقرب

يوالي فؤادي بالتداني وبالقرب

And I have tasted no estrangement, for the Beloved is my companion by night;

he befriends my heart by drawing near and being close.

وغبت عن الأشخاص مذ كنتمُ معي

وغبت عن الأشخاص مذ كنتمُ معي

وإن رمت لقياكم نظرت إلى قلبي

وإن رمت لقياكم نظرت إلى قلبي

And I became oblivious to people once you were with me.

And if I seek to meet you, I look into my heart.

وإن حرّكتني نحوكم نسمة الصبا

وإن حرّكتني نحوكم نسمة الصبا

رأيت فؤاد الصبّ ينشد في الركب

رأيت فؤاد الصبّ ينشد في الركب

And if a breath of the east wind stirs me toward you,

I see the lovesick one’s heart chanting in the caravan:

إذ غاب معناكم تذكّرتُ طيفَكم

إذ غاب معناكم تذكّرتُ طيفَكم

ومن لم يجد ماءً تيمّم بالترب

ومن لم يجد ماءً تيمّم بالترب

When your essence was absent, I recalled your phantom;

and whoever finds no water performs dry ablution with dust.
