محبوبي جلالي من خمر حلالي

في الحبّ كاسات الشهود

My beloved unveiled to me, from wine lawful to me,

in love, the cups of witnessing,

من صافي الطلا في الشرب سائغ الورود

للصبّ مطلق القيود

of pure wine, smooth and pleasant to drink,

for the yearning lover, loosening bonds.

من كأسي صفا لي بديعُ الجمال

في القرب توحيد الوجود

From my cup, the wondrously beautiful one became clear to me;

in nearness lies the oneness of being.

وبه انجلى عن قلبي حجاب الصدود

في حبّي لزمت الحدود

And through him, the veil of estrangement lifted from my heart;

in my love, I kept within the bounds.

بدري بالكمال عن أوج الوصال

في الشمس لاح للندام

My full moon, in perfection, from the zenith of union,

shone in the sun for the drinking companions.

وبه جلا للكأس من سما المدام

في شربي قد طاب الورود

And through him, wine shone from heaven for the cup;

in my drinking, partaking grew sweet indeed.

لاح بالجمال ماس بالدلال

في الأفق مدّدت الظلال

He shone with beauty and swayed with coy grace.

Across the horizon the shadows were stretched

من سما العلا في الخلق وهي كالخيال

إذ تنبي عن نور الوجود

from the heaven of sublimity amid creation, and they are like an illusion,

as they tell of the light of being.

صلّى ذو الجلال دائم النوال

بالتسليم للهدى الإمام

May the Lord of Majesty, unfailing in bounty, send blessings

with salutations of peace upon the guiding imam:

نبيٌّ علا بالتعظيم والآل الكرام

والصحب بدور السعود

a prophet exalted in honor, and his noble family,

and the Companions, full moons of good fortune.
