حبيبٌ طاب لي مجلاه

حبيبٌ طاب لي مجلاه

In my mirror His reflection grew clear;

A beloved whose manifestation delighted me.

أراني أنّني إيّاه

أراني أنّني إيّاه

وما المرئي والمرآه إلّا الله

وما المرئي والمرآه إلّا الله

He showed me that I am He,

And the seen and the mirror are nothing but God.

جناني باطن اللاهوت

جناني باطن اللاهوت

وقلبي جوهر الياقوت

وقلبي جوهر الياقوت

My inmost heart is divinity's inward aspect;

And my heart is ruby's very essence;

وجسمي ظاهر الناسوت

وجسمي ظاهر الناسوت

بنارٍ هواه زاد بهاه إلّا الله

بنارٍ هواه زاد بهاه إلّا الله

And my body is humanity's outward form.

Through the fire of love for Him, its splendor grew—none but God.

تصدّى في صدى الآلات

تصدّى في صدى الآلات

إلى الألحان والنغمات

إلى الألحان والنغمات

He came forth in the echo of instruments,

Toward melodies and musical notes;

وفي الغزلان والغادات

وفي الغزلان والغادات

رأينا الحسن حيث نراه إلّا الله

رأينا الحسن حيث نراه إلّا الله

And in gazelles and graceful maidens,

We saw beauty wherever we beheld Him—none but God.

إشاراتٌ بدت منّا

إشاراتٌ بدت منّا

إليه إذ هو المعنى

إليه إذ هو المعنى

Allusions arose from us

To Him, for He is the meaning;

عباراتٌ غدت عنّا

عباراتٌ غدت عنّا

لصبٍّ قد غدا مرآه إلّا الله

لصبٍّ قد غدا مرآه إلّا الله

Expressions went forth from us

For a lovelorn one who has become His reflection—none but God.

وفي ركب الصبا عشّاق

وفي ركب الصبا عشّاق

شدت في نجد بالأشواق

شدت في نجد بالأشواق

And in the east wind's caravan are lovers

Who sang in Najd with longing;

ورقّ مدام ذاك وراق

ورقّ مدام ذاك وراق

ولم نشهد سوى إيّاه إلّا الله

ولم نشهد سوى إيّاه إلّا الله

And that one's wine grew delicate and clear;

And we witnessed none but Him—none but God.
