Through us He manifested Himself to us, from us; so through her she effaced us from ourselves.
And in subsistence she existed through us, just as we, from ourselves, existed through her.

صفاتٌ فينا قد قامت وأسماءٌ بها قمنا
And we were not—yes, we were—like a letter that came to convey meaning.
Attributes subsisted in us, and names through which we subsisted.

وقد أحطنا بالهوى علماً غدا لنا عينا
And we are the throne of enthronement; upon us our Beloved was enthroned.
And we encompassed passionate love in knowledge that became direct vision for us.

وفي بلا ستٍّ حدود سبع بها لها طبنا
From our hearing, in witnessing, come refrains of the oneness of being.
And in a realm without six bounds are seven; through them, for them, we found delight.

يأتي الحجاز من العراق موحّداً بها غنَّى
Those refrains, through tasting, rise above the seven layered heavens.
To the Hijaz from Iraq comes one who sang of them, affirming oneness.

Boughs of the gardens of the arts—their fruits are the blossoms of states of being.
At their heart is one sorrowful with longing; he has a dwelling in their grove.

for him who is ever alive in the grave; his is the sweetest draught of purity.'

and as, in the loftiest vision, he drew within two bow-lengths, or nearer.
