فثرىfor the dust نعالِكَof your sandals كحلُهاtheir kohl لتراكاso they may see you
فثرى نعالِكَ كحلُها لتراكا
By God, place your feet upon my eye sockets;
By God, place your feet upon my eyelids
For the dust of your sandals is their kohl, so they may see you.
For the dust of your shoes is kohl to my eyes
وامننand grant favor عليّupon me منof الوصالunion بنظرةٍwith a glance
وامنن عليّ من الوصال بنظرةٍ

فلقد قنعت من الوصل بذاكا
And grant me a glance as my share of union;
And grant me the favor of your glance
For I have been content with that much of union.
For I am content with that much union
وأطلand prolong محادثتيconversation with me فإنّfor indeed مسامعيmy ears

صمّتhave grown deaf فلمand so did not تسمعhear حديثspeech سواكاanyone other than you
صمّت فلم تسمع حديث سواكا
And prolong your conversation with me, for my ears
Prolong our conversation, for my ears
Have grown deaf and heard no speech but yours.
Have become deaf, hearing no speech but yours
فمسامعيso my ears مثليlike me بحبّكthrough love of you قدindeed غدتhave become

تهوَىlove حديثكyour speech مثلماjust as أهواكاI love you
تهوَى حديثك مثلما أهواكا
So my ears, like me, through love of you, have come
Thus my ears are like me, in your love they too
To love your speech just as I love you.
Adore your words, just as I adore you
