من سما حيّ الحبيب

The light of the sun of nearness shone

From the sky of the Beloved's abode,

وبسحب الفيض أغدق

وبسحب الفيض أغدق

فشفى قلب الكئيب

فشفى قلب الكئيب

And poured abundantly through clouds of bounty,

So it healed the sorrowful one's heart,

وقيود البين أطلق

وقيود البين أطلق

وانطفى حرّ اللهيب

وانطفى حرّ اللهيب

And loosed the bonds of separation,

And the blaze's heat died down.

ولنا الآمال حقّق

ولنا الآمال حقّق

بهنا العيش الخصيب

بهنا العيش الخصيب

And fulfilled our hopes

With the bliss of a bountiful life.

يا رفيقي يا رفيقي

يا رفيقي يا رفيقي

فانتهج نهج الطريق

فانتهج نهج الطريق

O my companion, O my companion,

So follow the course of the path,

واجتن السرّ الحقيقي

واجتن السرّ الحقيقي

من ربَى الروض الأنيق

من ربَى الروض الأنيق

And pluck the true secret

From the hills of the lovely garden.

وشذى الفتح العتيق

وشذى الفتح العتيق

ضاع كالمسك الفتيق

ضاع كالمسك الفتيق

And the fragrance of the age-old opening

Wafted like unsealed musk.

فاجتهد إن رمت تلحق

فاجتهد إن رمت تلحق

بصفا قلبٍ منيب

بصفا قلبٍ منيب

So strive, if you wish to catch up,

With the purity of a repentant heart.

فاتبع البكريّ وانهجْ

فاتبع البكريّ وانهجْ

نهجه بالصدق وانحُ

نهجه بالصدق وانحُ

Then follow al-Bakri, and tread

His path sincerely, and set your course.

وبورد الفتح فالهجْ

وبورد الفتح فالهجْ

سحراً يأتيك فتحُ

سحراً يأتيك فتحُ

And keep chanting the Litany of Opening

Before dawn; an opening will come to you.

حبّذا وردٌ تأرّجْ

حبّذا وردٌ تأرّجْ

طيبه يتلوه نفحُ

طيبه يتلوه نفحُ

How lovely a litany! How sweetly wafts

Its perfume, followed by a fragrant breath,

من شذا الأطياب أعبق

من شذا الأطياب أعبق

جامعٌ من كلّ طيب

جامعٌ من كلّ طيب

More fragrant than the scent of perfumes,

Gathering something of every fragrance.
