A full moon appeared in deep darkness; its light eclipsed all gloom.

Veiled in manifestations, yet there is nothing but his manifestation.

From the eye's depths he is manifest; his presence hid him in the unseen.

With the eye of your face he gazes; in it and in you is his emergence.

Above the above, without a 'where,' he denies any fixed 'below.'

Light of revelation, O my master.

He is one, never made two; union appears in separation.

A bough of gardens swayed with the fullness of radiant beauty.

Nightly conversations among us—the insights of the Greatest Master.

His manifestation wafted with fragrant breath among the hills.

The subtle grace of tasting draws us near; describing longing bestows on us

Beauty of interpretation, O my master.

When Layla's face was unveiled, all became effaced in her.

And dawn shone by night, from the light of the sun of nearness.

And his intoxicated ones swayed in sorrowful longing to the sound of the paired strings.

If you blow into the pipes, then the spirit blows its trumpet.

The collared dove moves us to sorrow with song beyond endurance,

Whenever 'O my master' is said.

We vanished from sight and from ourselves since his lute rang out in melody.

We found delight in ourselves, as his witnessing shone forth from us in the unseen.

O One, whose being became two only through union.

A meaning appeared in the signs; through it, the sorrowful one's mountain was shattered.

So conceal longing's shifting states within the steadfastness of tasting.

Thus comes perfection, O my master.
