    A bearer of glad tidings came from the unseen realm into the world of sense;

so my eye was gladdened by him, and through him my soul grew glad,

for the blessing the Lord bestowed, which

fills all creation with happiness and delight.

It is the lofty office for which were raised

banners of delight, bearing glad tidings to humankind.

And that is a true dawn, yet

the lights of the rising sun will follow it.

Nor is it strange that evening and morning find me widely known,

as the proper name of a kind is shared by its members.

And whoever plants upright justice, surely he

will reap the fruits of honor from that planting.

And whoever wears piety as an inner garment need not fear

confusion and ambiguity while so clothed.

And he whose striving is for God the Great,

and whose aim is toward Him, needs neither sword nor shield.

He summoned the ships of hope into the sea of his generosity,

and through his good fortune they came to anchor upon al-Judi.

    So his glad tidings are the star of good fortune, risen and shining;

and no wonder if the stars of ill fortune set because of it.

May you rejoice in your lofty office, while I

congratulate myself on it and sip the cup of serenity.

And receive more of our Lord's bounty than you hope for,

for behold, it has reached you from the Holy Presence.

So tomorrow is the better of the two days of your rising fortune,

just as today is better than yesterday.

And persevere in thanking God, for He

grants you more of what cannot be perceived by touch.

So you are a vizier, of all people most deserving of praise,

over a dominion to which the Throne and the Seat bow.

And you are he whose due no panegyrist has fully paid,

even if, among men, he were more eloquent than Quss.

A vizier who, whenever he gives, puts Hatim to shame,

and in battle puts Antarah al-Absi to shame.

So may he ever graze in the meadow of happiness,

in the shade of congratulations, gathering the fruit of delight,

throughout all time and days, so long as my mind is cheered by

a bearer of glad tidings who came from the unseen realm into the world of sense.
