I say to the people of diversion, pride, and veils:

Beware, beware, lest you die bereft!

Is remembrance of God—exalted is His majesty—denounced,

when the clear Revelation contains an explicit text for anyone with understanding?

And how many traditions there are in Ahmad's sacred law!

And consensus in our favor has been reached among non-Arabs and Arabs.

And this is the practice of the Companions and the forebears, whom

one follows in religion, O you bereft of heart.

    وإلّا فكفّوا ألسُنَ العذل والعتب

    Come with us, that we may remember God together;

otherwise, restrain the tongues of censure and reproach.

I fear for you God's onslaught; indeed, it

lies in wait—by my life—shattering with a keen sword.

Behold, God's party consists of those engaged in remembrance,

and the accursed one's party is whoever shuns nearness to God.

And you will see the truth of the matter when there appear

the secrets of all creation at the arduous assembly.

Did not the best of creation remember his Lord

openly and in secret? It is authenticated; we relate it in the books.

Peace be upon you, if you do not understand our speech.

And each will find tomorrow the sweetest gain.

And never shall we turn away from remembrance of our Lord,

standing, sitting, or lying on our sides.

    So if you desire peace with us, then safety be yours;

and if you desire war, then we are men of war.

And God—exalted is He—does not wrong a band

that, in His presence, continually speaks of love in remembrance,

as in a tradition of al-Bukhari, transmitted with a chain,

from the Chosen One, sent by the Lord.

Upon him be God's blessing, then His peace,

and upon his family, with the Companions, his kin, and his followers.
