Hold fast to the remembrance of God—exalted is His majesty.

For in it is healing for hearts from rust.

And persevere in invoking the Name of Majesty, for it

is salvation and a fortress tomorrow, O our beloved ones.

And be enraptured with it in every state, and murmur.

And do not heed an ever-ready servant who has turned rebellious.

And strive to journey well, and hold fast to contentment.

And be sincere in resolve, that you may win bounty.

And follow the path of the predecessors, and sip

the wines of purity, for their draught is sweet at the source.

Joy to the people of remembrance: their life has grown sweet.

And they have won nearness to the Truth throughout time's span.

And sufficient for them is the report that angels

surround them, shielding them from the night-visitor of error and ruin.

And it is established that God—exalted is He—is their companion.

So, oh, how excellent that companion is for one who has found guidance!

And from Him we sip a wine of the Self-Sufficient One,

aged from of old, with which the clan revelled drunkenly.

Al-Bakri, shaykh of our path, passed it on to us,

the imam of creation, who calls humankind to guidance.

May God's good pleasure rain down upon you with bounty,

throughout all time, so long as a singer sings at his watering-place.
