أجلُpolish كأسيmy cup بالسماعthrough listening to music بينamong أربابmasters of المذاقtaste
أجلُ كأسي بالسماع بين أرباب المذاق
والقَand meet الحانthe tavern بالأحانwith melodies (uncertain reading)
والقَ الحان بالأحان
Polish my cup with music among the masters of taste.
I raise my cup in hearing among the connoisseurs of taste
And greet the tavern with [melodies].
And play melodies in various tones
أيّهاO الصبّthe passionate lover الولهانbewildered with love وانظرand behold صبريmy patience الواهيfrail
أيّها الصبّ الولهان وانظر صبري الواهي
منfrom الشجنsorrow
من الشجن
O love-stricken, bewildered one, behold my frail patience
O intoxicated and infatuated youth, look at my fading patience
From sorrow.
From melancholy
وأجبand answer صوتthe voice of الدواعيthe summons باهتمامwith care
وأجب صوت الدواعي باهتمام
واشتياقٍand longing وامحُand wipe away الرانthe rust والأدرانand the stains
واشتياقٍ وامحُ الران والأدران
And answer the voice of the summons with care
And answer the call of passions with care
And longing; and wipe away the rust and stains
And yearning, and erase censure and judgment
عنكfrom yourself باللهthrough God الرحمنthe All-Merciful واحذرand beware فعلthe conduct of اللاهيthe heedless one
عنك بالله الرحمن واحذر فعل اللاهي
عنof المننthe blessings
عن المنن
From yourself, through God, the All-Merciful; and beware the conduct of one heedless
From you, by Allah the Merciful, and beware the act of the heedless
Of blessings.
Regarding favors
واغتنمand make the most of حسنthe goodness of المساعيthe endeavors واجرand run معwith خيلthe horses of السباقthe race
واغتنم حسن المساعي واجر مع خيل السباق
واتركand leave behind كانwas والأكوانand the created worlds
واترك كان والأكوان
And make the most of worthy endeavors, and run with the racing steeds.
And seize the opportunity for good endeavors and move with the horses of the race
And leave behind 'was' and the created worlds.
And leave the past and universes
تلقyou will find جنّاتgardens of العرفانgnosis ذاتpossessing الحسنbeauty الزاهيradiant
تلق جنّات العرفان ذات الحسن الزاهي
علىupon الفَنَنthe bough
على الفَنَن
You will find gardens of gnosis, with radiant beauty
Meet the gardens of mystic knowledge, possessed of beauteous blossoming
Upon the bough.
In the arts
وعلىand upon طهTaha المطاعthe one obeyed منwho علىabove السبعthe seven heavens الطباقlayered one above another
وعلى طه المطاع من على السبع الطباق
صلّsend blessings الآنnow ياO حنّانMost Compassionate
صلّ الآن يا حنّان
And upon Taha, the one obeyed, who is above the seven layered heavens,
And upon Mount Sinai where Moses heard the seven heavens
Send blessings now, O Most Compassionate,
Pray now, O beloved
عدّas many as آياتthe verses of القرآنthe Quran ماas long as المحبّthe lover اليافيal-Yafi
عدّ آيات القرآن ما المحبّ اليافي
حبّloves الحسانthe fair ones
حبّ الحسان
As many as the Quran's verses, as long as the lover al-Yafi
Recite the verses of the Quran, what does the affectionate lover lack
Loves the fair ones.
