عليك سلام الله في الحيّ يا يحيى

عليك سلام الله في الحيّ يا يحيى

وحُقَّ لمن قد مات في الحبّ أن يحيا

وحُقَّ لمن قد مات في الحبّ أن يحيا

God's peace be upon you in the encampment, O Yahya.

God's peace be upon you, O Yahya, among the living

And it is fitting that whoever has died in love should live.

And the right for one who has died in love to live again

ومن لم يمت في الحبّ يا نفس والهوى

ومن لم يمت في الحبّ يا نفس والهوى

فقد عدّ في الموتى وإن كان في الأحيا

فقد عدّ في الموتى وإن كان في الأحيا

And whoever has not died in love and passion, O soul,

And one who has not died in love, O self and passion

is counted among the dead, even if he is among the living.

Has counted himself among the dead though he be among the living

ألا فتجرّد عنك من قشرة السوى

ألا فتجرّد عنك من قشرة السوى

ومت تبقَ حيّاً في الممات وفي المَحيا

ومت تبقَ حيّاً في الممات وفي المَحيا

Take heed: strip yourself of the husk of all that is other.

So strip yourself of the husk of ordinariness

And die: you will remain alive in death and in life.

And die, that you may live on in death and life

وجاهد تشاهد غيدَ غيبِ الصفا الّتي

وجاهد تشاهد غيدَ غيبِ الصفا الّتي

تجلّت بحسن الفيض في الكلمة العليا

تجلّت بحسن الفيض في الكلمة العليا

And strive: you will behold the graceful maidens of purity's unseen realm, who

And strive to behold the face of pure truth

have manifested themselves in the beauty of emanation, in the highest word.

Revealed in the beauty of divine effulgence through the Sublime Word

لتدخل جنّات الشهود وتجتني

لتدخل جنّات الشهود وتجتني

جنى لذّة الأخرى وإن كنت في الدنيا

جنى لذّة الأخرى وإن كنت في الدنيا

So that you may enter the gardens of witnessing and gather

That you may enter the Gardens of Witnessing

the fruit of the hereafter's delight, even while you are in this world.

And pluck the fruits of supreme delight, though you are in this world

وما ثمّ من ذاتٍ سوى الذات تنجلي

وما ثمّ من ذاتٍ سوى الذات تنجلي

بأسما صفاتِ الحقّ قامت بها الأشيا

بأسما صفاتِ الحقّ قامت بها الأشيا

And there is no essence there but the Essence, which is revealed

For there is no essence but The Essence unfolding

through the names of the Real's attributes, by which things subsist.

Through the Names and Qualities of Truth by which all things arise

لمرآتك اجلي بالجلالة كي ترى

لمرآتك اجلي بالجلالة كي ترى

جمالَ التجلي فاتحَ المقلة العَميا

جمالَ التجلي فاتحَ المقلة العَميا

Polish your mirror with divine majesty, so that you may see

Polish your mirror that it may reflect

the beauty of self-revelation, which opens the blind eye.

The beauty of the Manifest through the Unveiling Eye

منحتك رشدي في الطريق وبعد ذا

منحتك رشدي في الطريق وبعد ذا

عليك سلام الله في الحيّ يا يحيى

عليك سلام الله في الحيّ يا يحيى

I have given you my guidance on the path; and after this,

I have granted you guidance on the path and after this

God's peace be upon you in the encampment, O Yahya.

God's peace be upon you, O Yahya, among the living.
