O masters, through whom my poverty has turned to wealth,

And O oceans, for whom my yearning heart is a vessel,

If racehorses run, then I am the noble steed.

When I heard your caller say, “Come to us,”

I tightened my pilgrimage waistcloth and answered the call.

Indeed, I detached myself from my family and my child,

And I turned away from the sweetness of my serene, comfortable life.

And I bound fast the saddles of patience and fortitude,

And said to my soul, “Press on with the journey and strive,

And help me, for this is what I wished for.”

So in my youth I journeyed like the morning breeze,

Until, through you, I emerged at the end of life.

And upon attaining my wishes, a thought crossed my mind:

“Had I come to you on foot, hastening upon my eyes,

I would not have fulfilled your due—and what due have I rendered?”
