فيin التجلّيdivine self-disclosure قدindeed صارhas become كلّيَmy whole being قلباa heart
في التجلّي قد صار كلّيَ قلبا
وشهودand witnessing الوجودexistence أشهدI behold ربّاa Lord
وشهود الوجود أشهد ربّا
In divine self-disclosure, my whole being has become a heart.
In revelation I have become entirely heart,
And in witnessing existence, I behold the Lord.
And witness of existence I bear witness to the Lord.
وجميعيand all of me عيناًan eye فتنظرso it sees كلّيall of me
وجميعي عيناً فتنظر كلّي
أذناًan ear تسمعhears الشهادةthe manifest world غيباas the unseen
أذناً تسمع الشهادة غيبا
And all of me is an eye that sees; my whole being is
My whole self is an eye looking entirely,
an ear that hears the manifest world as the unseen.
An ear hearing the unseen testimony.
حجبhas veiled الكونthe cosmos عينهHis essence وهوand He فيهwithin it
حجب الكون عينه وهو فيه
شاهدa witness والشهودand witnessing عنabout ذاكthat أنبىhas made known
شاهد والشهود عن ذاك أنبى
The cosmos has veiled His essence, though within it He is
The veils of the universe are its eye yet it is within them,
a witness; and witnessing has made that known.
Witness, and the witnesses of that are more eloquent.
إنّهindeed He العينthe Essence والكوائنand existent beings آثاtraces (word begins here)
إنّه العين والكوائن آثا
رُcompletes 'traces' وجودٍexistence قامتhave arisen علىover العينthe Essence حجباas veils
رُ وجودٍ قامت على العين حجبا
He is the Essence, and existent beings are traces
It is the eye and the beings are motes
of existence, standing as veils over the Essence.
Of existence upon which veils stood.
والوجودand existence المنزّهtranscendent الصرفpure فيّاًas a shadow
والوجود المنزّه الصرف فيّاً
واحدٌone فيin الشهودwitnessing بعداًdistance وقرباand nearness
واحدٌ في الشهود بعداً وقربا
And pure, transcendent existence, as a shadow,
The pure, transcendent existence is essentially I;
is one in witnessing, in distance and nearness.
One in witnessing, near and far.
إنif يردHe wills كانcomes to be ماwhat أرادHe willed فإيجاthus, necessarily (word begins here)
إن يرد كان ما أراد فإيجا
باًcompletes 'necessarily' يكونcomes to pass المرادwhat is willed كوناًbeing وسلباand negation
باً يكون المراد كوناً وسلبا
If He wills, what He wills comes to be; thus, necessarily,
If it desires to be, it comes into being effortlessly;
what is willed comes to pass, in being and negation.
And if it desires not, being vanishes and ceases.
جلّHe is exalted فيin قدسthe sanctity حضرةٍa Presence قدindeed تعالتhas risen high
جلّ في قدس حضرةٍ قد تعالت
حيّرHe bewildered الكلّeveryone فيهconcerning Him عقلاًreason ولبّاand understanding
حيّر الكلّ فيه عقلاً ولبّا
Exalted is He in the sanctity of a Presence that has risen high;
Exalted in the sanctity of a presence transcended,
He has bewildered everyone concerning Him—in reason and understanding.
Perplexing intellect and heart entirely.
