من خمرة البكريّ قطب الأوانِ

Of the wine of al-Bakrī, the spiritual pole of the age,

From the wine jug of al-Bukri

drink, and sip the vessels’ clear wine in the tavern.

Turn back and sip its pure drink

واخلع بربّات الخدور الّتي

واخلع بربّات الخدور الّتي

كأنّها في الحسن حور الجنان

كأنّها في الحسن حور الجنان

And cast off restraint with the ladies of the curtained chambers, who

And take off the veils of the rosy-cheeked

are, in beauty, like the houris of the gardens of Paradise.

Who in beauty are like the Houris of Paradise

وطف بركن الحيّ وانزل به

وطف بركن الحيّ وانزل به

فكلّ من قد حلّه في أمان

فكلّ من قد حلّه في أمان

And circle the encampment’s corner, and alight there;

Hover around the comely neighborhood

for all who have settled there are safe.

And descend upon it, for all who reside there are safe

وارم جمار الغير في السير إن

وارم جمار الغير في السير إن

تكن لوصل الغيد لاوي العنان

تكن لوصل الغيد لاوي العنان

And cast pebbles at otherness on the journey, if

And drive away the camels of others on your journey

you are turning the reins toward union with the graceful maidens.

If you wish to reach your beloved loosen the reins

والبس ثياب الحبّ وارفل بها

والبس ثياب الحبّ وارفل بها

وافخر فهذا الفخر لا الطيلسان

وافخر فهذا الفخر لا الطيلسان

And don the garments of love, and stride proudly in them;

Wear the clothes of love and wrap yourself in them

and take pride, for this is glory—not the ṭaylasān mantle.

And boast, for this is true boasting, not vainglory
