and my envier has taken pity on me in love.

And my jealous rivals rejoice at my torment.

غزير دمعي على الخدود

And from my eyelid's overflowing clouds flowed

Tears pour from my eyes like rain

my copious tears upon my cheeks.

Streaming down my cheeks.

يا عاذلي خلّني فإنّي

غبت من الوجد عن وجودي

غبت من الوجد عن وجودي

O you who reproach me, leave me be, for I

O reproacher, leave me be, for I

have lost awareness of my own being through passionate longing.

Am lost, absent from my very existence.

وصحتُ من عُظم ما ألاقي

يا مقلتي بالدموع جودي

يا مقلتي بالدموع جودي

And I cried out at the immensity of what I endure:

I am weary of such great suffering,

O my eye, be generous with tears!

My eyes weeping floods of tears.

قد فقت أهل الهوى هياماً

قد فقت أهل الهوى هياماً

في حبّ ظبي الحمى الشرود

في حبّ ظبي الحمى الشرود

I have surpassed lovers in love's frenzy

I have devoted myself madly

in loving the elusive gazelle of the sanctuary.

To the love of a graceful gazelle.

إنّي أرى هجره جحيماً

إنّي أرى هجره جحيماً

ووصلَه جنّة الخلود

ووصلَه جنّة الخلود

Indeed, I see his estrangement as hell,

For me, her abandonment is hell

and union with him as everlasting paradise.

And her union, paradise forever.

ففي تنائيه والتداني

ففي تنائيه والتداني

ما حُلتُ عن سالف العهود

ما حُلتُ عن سالف العهود

For in his remoteness and his nearness,

In her distance and closeness

I have not turned from the vows of old.

I remember our past vows.
