A righteous man's oath, by the neighing steeds,
With noble steeds and sharp blades unsheathed,
And by the keen-edged blades that cleave and sever,
With slender spears and swords that cleave,

And by the mail, like pools, woven by Tubbaʿ,
With coats of mail like adders twined, woven in Tubba's land,
And by the supple, swaying Samhari spears:
With straight and sturdy lances raised and poised to strike,

I swear: how fine a tribe we are, when there sweep
When we mount and ride forth at ease, none can match our worth.
Scouring winds that scatter the rain at dusk.
Our foes we trample and crush without delay.

Great kings we are, who plunge into the fray,
And givers of good, lavish gifts.
Bestowers of gifts so generous and freely given.

The stars of spearheads in the gloom of battle dust.
Their stars on high within the dome of heaven.

Bold raiders, roaming deserts in their quest,
Valiant horsemen, answering duty's call,
When the sun spits its spittle across the empty plains.
When the sun spews froth they ready for the brawl.

Kindlers of war, chaste of loin, who subdued
Stalwart warriors tried, who dyed their mail blood-red,
With gleaming, keen blades every valiant king.
And laid low the tyrants' rule on battlefields widespread.

They hasten to oft-renewed war, as there stride
To war they march as lions from their den,
Lions of a lair beneath showers and a downpour.
Beneath a storm of blows and driving rain.

So, what unmixed stock you are, and what nobility,
Woe to you, O Aysa, whose deeds the vilest be,
Towering at the summit of glory and noble deeds!
Who vaunt yourself though lacking all high qualities.

Our bounty drains the morning rainclouds, and praise of us
Your hatred seethes and sets our minds awry,
Is sung by riders atop their riding camels.
While thanks to us the riders sing atop their camels high.

تضعضعbowed in submission ساداتthe lords of الملوكkings الأفاضلِthe noble ones
I am the king who enriches and bestows, before whom
I am the king whose verse is pure delight,
The noble lords of kings have bowed low.
The noblest of nobles quake before my might.

My station has risen above the valiant one of the two Simak stars,
My rank's above the loftiest summit won,
And my fingertips have shamed the most bountiful clouds.
My deeds, though heavy as the clouds, weigh on no one.

And I am surely a burden that foes cannot bear,
No enemies can withstand my blows,
Even if they could bear the loftiest mountains.
Not if they stood as tall and strong as mountain snows.

Ask the people of the two tribes, Maʿadd and Yaʿrub,
Ask all the tribes of Mudar and Yarab,
And the dwellers of the desert regions and strongholds:
And those who dwell where sweet wine flows in eachBRE

So is there a king like me who gives generously, unasked,
Is there a king whose gifts as mine compare,
And thrusts sidelong into the backs of squadrons?
Who plunges with such skill his lance in war's red glare?
وهلand has ...? ذمَّblamed كفيmy hand فيin هياجbattle مهنَّديmy Indian blade

And has my Indian blade blamed my hand in battle?
Have I e'er flinched at blows in battle's tide?
And have my sword-belts ever hung slack upon me?
Have my arm's strokes gone astray or fallen wide?

So my protégé is the star's neighbor in glory and security,
My bounty vies with the stars' glittering train,
And he who reproaches the sea of surging waves reproaches me.
And I mete out wrath to wrathful men in kind.
